Take-Two Interactive gave fans a release window for Grand Theft Auto 6’s console release, but fans are left wondering how long they’ll have to wait for the PC version.
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto franchise is huge and has a massive following. GTA 5‘s availability on numerous platforms is key to why it’s likely the most profitable game of all time, and the studio likely won’t leave any stone unturned in the release of GTA 6. After all, it’s one of the most anticipated games worldwide, as proven by the records the reveal trailer alone broke.
GTA 6’s release date window was officially confirmed as Fall 2025 by Take-Two Interactive, with the game launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. However, the PC port is another matter entirely. This has fans worried if and when they will get a GTA 6 PC release.
Why isn’t GTA 6 on PC?
It is unknown why GTA 6 will not be available on PC on day one, but Take-Two Interactive has confirmed this will be the case.
The PC ports of Rockstar games usually release at a later time, and the same will apply to Grand Theft Auto 6. This has worried some fans, especially given how large the game’s PC player base has become through mods, GTA Online, and role-playing servers.
This is in no small part because of Rockstar’s previous treatment of PC releases. Red Dead Redemption 1’s remastered version has been out for over a year on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, but the PC version is yet to arrive. While that may change as Rockstar accidentally announced the PC port of RDR, it doesn’t change the fact that the wait is longer than fans expected.
While the long wait is unsettling, the Red Dead Redemption remaster also gives a beacon of hope. If Rockstar is willing to release a PC port of a remastered game that only came out on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, then it wouldn’t make sense for the studio to do the same for the next entry in one of the biggest game series of all time.
Taking a look at the last two mainline Grand Theft Auto entries, Rockstar made fans wait a while for the PC ports. However, the fact remains that the studio eventually released the games for PC, and that’s what fans can expect from GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6 PC release date info
There is no release date for GTA 6’s PC version, though fans could be looking at an extended wait.
It is unclear how long it will take Rockstar Games will release the GTA 6 PC port.
The studio released the GTA 5 PC port 18 months after the PS4 and Xbox One releases. GTA 5’s PC port saw much success but only over time. The initial launch of the PC version of GTA 5 was mired by bugs and performance issues.
Touching on the Red Dead Remaster again, while the PC port was accidentally leaked, fans still don’t have a release date. As fans don’t have a PC port release date more than a year after Red Dead Redemption Remaster came out, it’s anyone’s guess when Rockstar will announce the release date for GTA 6’s PC release.
The saving grace for fans is Grand Theft Auto 4. GTA 4’s PC port came out less than a years after the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release.
