Why did Sony kill Bloodborne Kart, and what happens next?

bloodborne kart

Fangame Bloodborne Kart is being scrapped, but fans don’t have to worry. The meme-turned-game is still going to be brought across the finish line.

Bloodborne is widely regarded as one of the best games of its generation and arguably the best Soulsborne game thus far. The fact that Sony, FromSoftware, and PlayStation have all dropped it without any sort of follow-up has grated on fans for the better part of a decade at this point. There’s been no sequel, no remaster, no next-gen upgrade, and no PC port. This is made all the more perplexing by the fact that the game was actually a commercial success, out-selling numerous PlayStation first-party releases that received sequels or follow-ups.

This has left fans desperate for anything they can get on the game. While there have been reports of a Bloodborne movie being made by Sony Pictures, most of the content related has been fan-made like the recreation of Yharnam in Minecraft. Likely the biggest project has been Bloodborne Kart, a kart racer and vehicle combat game that included the most recognizable character from its namesake.

While fan enthusiasm for the game built over time, Sony finally remembered that Bloodborne existed just to quash any excitement fans might have had about it. The good news is that the game will fittingly shamble on in a state of undeath.

Is Bloodborne Kart coming out?

Bloodborne Kart has been canceled at the request of Sony due to its use of characters from the game. The good news is that the game will still come out, just with the Bloodborne characters and themes removed.

Developer Lilith Walther announced the news on social media and discussed the future of the game. Though the game rose to prominence in large part due to its association with the game, they suggested they are at ease with the change.

“So Sony contacted us. Long story short, we need to scrub the branding off what was previously known as Bloodborne Kart…We were honestly expecting something like this to happen and the idea of having full creative control is kind of exciting,” Walther said on YouTube.

When is Bloodborne Kart coming out?

The release date for the game formerly known as Bloodborne Kart has not been revealed. The title was originally scheduled to launch on January 31, 2024, but the late rug pull from Sony will see the game pushed back.

Walther did not indicate how long the delay will be or what the revised game may look like. She teased on Twitter the revised version of Micolash, Host of the Nightmare.

Fans may be able to expect to see the game lampooned in this way once it comes out.
