The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will take the series’ classic gameplay formula and mix it with modern trimmings, including fast travel and horse riding.
Modern Zelda games are huge, open-world affairs. That started with Ocarina of Time and by the time Breath of the Wild rolled around, players were able to ride around on a motorcycle that let Link zip around the giant map in style. Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom isn’t waiting for any DLC to add a faster way to move.
A huge map deserves to be explored, but it can get tedious if a lot of backtracking is involved. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the first game in the series where players play as Princess Zelda instead of Link. However, it’s not the first game in the series with adorable mounts.
Is there horse riding in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
A new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom shows Princess Zelda zipping around the map on an adorable-looking horse.
The horse is not just for decoration, either. It provides a faster way to travel across the map, jump over obstacles, and make it easier to reach certain parts of the levels. The horse can only be summoned in the overworld. It’s not clear whether the horse can swim in the Jabul Waters area.
The horse can also stomp enemies, like Morgana Car in Persona 5. Once players craft the carrot echo, they can use it to call the horse anywhere on the map. Zelda will also have the option of calling multiple horses throughout the game like Link did in Tears of the Kingdom.
Zelda has fast travel abilities in Echoes of Wisdom
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features deserts, swamps, and grasslands to explore, so convenient teleportation waypoints are scattered across the map.
Once discovered either on foot or horseback, the waypoints are permanently unlocked. Interacting with the waypoint, Zelda can teleport to another discovered one instantly. The trailer also showed plenty of locations featured in the game. Locations include the Gerudo Desert, Kabul Waters, Faron Wetlands, and Eldin Volcano.
The game also offers plenty of new NPCs and guest givers to meet. Taking on side quests is as easy as talking to the quest giver. The new Adventure Log helps keep track of all the side quests. Some fans are hoping for a Nintendo Switch 2 release. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26, 2024 for the Nintendo Switch.
