ZZZ Seed build guide: The best Drive Discs, W-Engines & teams

Seed has arrived in ZZZ version 2.2 and a proper Drive Disc build and W-Engine will make her one of the most versatile agents in the game when it comes to team compositions..

Attackers have fallen behind in Zenless Zone Zero. While they were originally the preferred damage dealers, disorder-focused anomaly teams have taken over since then. It doesn’t help that many of the attackers from version 1.4 and earlier simply haven’t held up, with Zhu Yuan, Nekomata, and Soldier 11 plunging down the ZZZ tier list over time.

Zenless Zone Zero patch 2.2 is seemingly trying to change that with new styles of attackers that offer both damage and buffs to allies. Seed is the first among these attack-support hybrids, but she’s capable of doing plenty of work herself.

How to play Seed in Zenless Zone Zero

Seed is a relatively straightforward attacker agent from a gameplay perspective, heavily leveraging her basic attacks for damage.

While agents like Harumasa and Hugo have a relatively elaborate kit or a unique playstyle, that’s not really the case with Seed. Her offering might be unique, but she’s a throwback in terms of her gameplay.

Players just need to charge up Seed’s special meter using basic attacks. After it reaches 75%, Seed can summon in her mech to do a high-damage combo.

The only real execution requirement for Seed is keeping her buff active. This is done by having Seed and her teammate unleash EX special attacks. When timed correctly, it grants both Seed and her teammate bonus attack and crit damage, and an overall damage boost.

Best ZZZ Drive Disc build for Seed

The Dawn’s Bloom Drive Disc set was effectively designed for Seed, making its four-piece bonus central to her build.

While many believed that Dawns Bloom would be a boon to various attack agents, that’s not the case. More than any other Drive Discs in ZZZ, Dawn’s Bloom is tailor-made for Seed. Though other attacker-friendly sets can work as a stopgap for those who don’t have the resources to farm a brand-new Drive Disc set, it’s the definitive best option for her.

Here are the ideal main stats for each Drive Disc slot when building Seed:

  • HP
  • Attack
  • Defense
  • Crit rate
  • Electric damage
  • ATK%

As ever, the substats to roll for are crit rate, crit damage, and ATK%.

4-piece Dawn’s Bloom, 2-piece Woodpecker Electro

Four-piece Dawn’s Bloom gives multiple stacks of buffs to Seed’s basic attacks, which synergizes with her focus on unleashing EX special attacks. The two-piece Woodpecker Electro bonus offers an extra bit of crit rate. While Seed gets free crit damage through her buff, ZZZ players need to actively try and build up her crit rate.

4-piece Dawn’s Bloom, 2-piece Hormone Punk or Astral Voice

As stated, Dawn’s Bloom synergizes very well with Seed’s overall kit. For those who don’t have Woodpecker Electro discs to spare, look at Hormone Punk or Astral Voice. Both have a two-piece bonus that offers +10% attack damage, which is a foolproof buff for Seed.

Best W-Engines for Seed

Seed’s signature W-Engine Cordis Germina is her best-in-slot option by a sizable margin, and players who want an optimal build for her should pull for it.

Past that, however, there isn’t a radically difference in the alternatives. Seed can make good use of various A-rank attacker engines, as well as a few S-rank options.

Cordis Germina

Cordis Germina offers Seed loads of Crit Rate, and an easy-to-stack buff based on her basic attack. This boosts her electric damage by up to 25%, that is improved further by ignoring of enemies’ defenses. It’s an ideal blend of stats for Seed, but it’s also a versatile W-Engine that works well for a number of other attackers.

The Brimstone

Seed can do solid work with the S-rank W-Engines for other electric attackers, but she also gets a lot from The Brimstone. With good Drive Disc substats, the significant attack boost from The Brimstone lets her do comparable damage to the limited S-rank alternatives. It’s still a far cry from the Cordis Germina, though.

Starlight Engine

For most builds, the Cannon Rotor and Marcato Desire are the best A-rank W-Engines for Seed but the Starlight Engine is the best fully free-to-play option. The base attack and double whammy of attack% boosts is preferable to the what’s offered by Street Superstar or Drill Rig.

Best Seed team compositions in Zenless Zone Zero

With a good build, Seed can pair well with almost any of ZZZ’s attacker and stun units. The ideal mix will vary based on the account, but Seed is particularly valuable for free-to-play accounts. She can post strong results in end-game content without needing key supporting pieces like Astra Yao or Yuzuha. Here are the best team compositions for Seed.

Best whale Seed team – Seed, Trigger, Evelyn/Orphie (Plugboo/Mercury)

The best overall team for Seed is pairing Seed with Trigger and a limited S-rank attacker. The Obol Squad duo can melt through basically any endgame content with an electric weakness, while their combination of buffs and daze can set up other attackers to wipe out other bosses..

The one major exception to this is unique ice attacker Hugo, whose play style is better suited to working with two stunners.

The best-in-slot at launch is Evelyn, but Orphie will take her spot upon launch. That said, any other S-rank attacker from Soldier 0 Anby to Ellen can combine to make a strong team. Even A-rank attackers like Anton can contribute to respectable clear times in Shiyu Defense, and Deadly Assault scores that surpass 20,000.

For those who don’t have Trigger, different support characters and stunners can also work. Astra Yao is unsurprisingly the best, but Rina, Nicole, and Yuzuha can also put up big numbers.

Best free-to-play Seed team – Seed, Nicole, Billy (Amillion)

In a testament to how strong Seed is with a good build, she can carry Zenless Zone Zero 1.0 duo Nicole and Billy through endgame content. Nicole isn’t necessarily a surprise as she remains a high-tier agent even today, but Billy was a low-tier character even before power creep intensified.

The bottom line, ultimately, is that Seed can work on basically any team that includes another attacker and a support. She’s just that versatile.
