Everything we know about Stardew Valley update 1.7

Stardew Valley has had a longer lifespan than anyone expected, but is a 1.7 update truly coming?

Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone’s farming and life sim first launched in 2016. The title ushered in a wave of “cozy” games, renewed interest in classic franchises like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, and redefined success in independent game development. Even though it’s an old game at this point, it remains extremely popular on both consoles and Steam.

A big part of that success has been significant content updates. Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update arrived in 2024 and added loads of features including the Mastery Cave and expanded multiplayer options. While ConcernedApe could have put a bow on the game after this, he has indicated that there’s more to come.

Will there be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update?

A Stardew Valley 1.7 update has been confirmed by the game’s creator, ConcernedApe.

The news came in August 2025 as part of the Stardew Valley Symphony of Seasons Concert Tour in Seattle, Washington. During the show, a simple note was shown saying “there will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update” with ConcernedApe’s signature. He then publicly announced the news on Twitter:

The news was a mix of surprising, but not.

Prior to announcing the update, ConcernedApe indicated that he wasn’t done with Stardew Valley. This included an appearance on the TigerBelly podcast where he discussed the possibility of a Stardew Valley 2. While ConcernedApe indicated a proper sequel was possible, he noted that another content update would be easier.

What makes this a surprise is that ConcernedApe is still working on Haunted Chocolatier. Haunted Chocolatier is a new game that has a similar look and feel to Stardew Valley, but drops the farming sim element in favor of shop management. This should make for an experience similar to Dave the Diver or Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale.

There’s still limited information regarding Haunted Chocolatier’s development or release date. It’s unknown how far along the game is, but ConcernedApe seems willing to juggle its development with maintenance for Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley 1.7 release date info

There is no official information regarding a release date for Stardew Valley update 1.7.

In ConcernedApe’s announcement of the update, he explicitly stated that there was “no release date, no estimate.” This suggests that the arrival of the 1.7 update could be a long way away.

Previously, major content updates came out at a relatively fast clip, with 18 months being a relatively long layoff. However, there were more than three years between the releases of Stardew Valley 1.5 and 1.6. Even after 1.6’s release, it took several more months for the update to arrive on consoles.

With ConcernedApe still working on Haunted Chocolatier, odds are that fans are in for a good wait.

What will be in the Stardew Valley 1.7 update?

There’s no word from ConcernedApe regarding what will be added in Stardew Valley’s 1.7 update. While details regarding the 1.6 update swirled years before it actually arrived, there’s still no word on what the next major content update could contain.

1.6 was largely a technical update, overhauling the game engine in a way that made it easier to mod. It didn’t lack for forward-facing content though, introducing quality-of-life improvements like eight-player multiplayer and the ability to recover rare items. With the under-the-hood aspects of the game likely tightened up after 1.6’s launch, expectations should focus on new content.

This could include any number of things, with new crops, livestock, and artisanal goods being the most likely possibilities. Fans were disappointed that 1.6 did not include new romance options, and the option to woo Clint or Sandy will likely top many wishlists.

Still, fans will have to wait for official word to know what’s coming.
