The 2025 Pokemon Day’s Pokemon Presents has been confirmed in an awkward way and players have a lot to look forward to, both in terms of hypotheticals and actual confirmed games.
An annual Pokemon Presents on February 27, the anniversary of Pokemon Red and Green’s release in Japan, is a tradition at this point. When it comes to the franchise, Pokemon Presents is even bigger than Nintendo Direct, bringing major game reveals and long-awaited trailers. Fans now know for sure that it’s set to return in 2025 and while this isn’t a surprise, it’s still set to be a big one.
Though there hasn’t been any sort of formal announcement, a Pokemon Presents event was confirmed for Pokemon Day in Pokemon GO, with a data mine of the game revealing some of the reveals. Here’s what we know and what’s likely in store for the event.
2025 Pokemon Presents confirmed in Pokemon GO
A 2025 Pokemon Presents event was confirmed by data miners of Pokemon GO.
Live service games typically pre-load content for upcoming events in their games, before a small patch unlocks it. Data miners see this content in advance, allowing them to leak details ahead of any official word. This is commonplace in games like Fortnite, but has also been seen in Pokemon Unite, GO, and Masters EX.
That was the case in 2023 when Pokemon Masters EX data mines revealed the date of a Pokemon Presents that was headlined by details on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Now, Pokemon GO has leaked the details.
A data string for a timed research event was discovered in Pokemon GO. The text for it simply reads “Pokemon Presents 2025 x GO Tour: Unova Timed Research.” Given how this lands on the calendar and the ongoing events in Pokemon GO, this essentially confirms a February 27, 2025 date for the event. Fans likely already have a good idea of what’s coming, too.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A likely to headline next Pokemon Presents
Pokemon Presents events typically include reveals for various Pokemon titles. This will likely include confirmations of new Pokemon GO events, new playable characters in Pokemon Unite, new trainers in Pokemon Masters EX, and special releases for the Pokemon TCG will likely be shown.
However, the biggest order of business for 2025’s Pokemon Presents is Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
The game was revealed in 2024, shocking fans who expected Pokemon Black and White remakes. Pokemon Legends: Arceus was a major hit both commercially and critically. The game took Pokemon’s core mechanics but moved them to a new, more action-oriented experience. It also had a comparatively weighty story, with characters’ lives being at risk as they battle Pokemon, the wilds, and other clans.
A sequel wasn’t a surprise but the game moving to a futuristic Kalos region certainly was. The lore of Pokemon X and Y wasn’t fully explored and is among the most grim tales in Pokemon. This could make for a unique Pokemon experience that cements “Legends” as a separate line of games.
However, little is actually known about the game beyond its existence, and the mystery surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 has only made Pokemon Legends: Z-A all the more intriguing. Fans will likely get some major details on the game on February 27, with a release date, the lineup of starters, and story details all being possible.
