A Spider-Verse game might have been revealed in Insomniac leak

Insomniac Games was hacked by a malicious ransomware group and one of the many reveals to come out of this was a potential Spider-Man game themed around the Spider-Verse.

Insomniac Games, the studio behind the recent Game of the Year nominee Spider-Man 2, was hacked by the ransomware group known as “Rhysida.” As proof of their breach, the group released sensitive information regarding the company and its employees, as well as screenshots of the upcoming Wolverine game. There also seem to be hints of what the critically acclaimed studio might be working on after that.

The Insomniac leaks contained mentions of a potential Spider-Verse title, following on the blockbuster success of Sony’s line of animated Spider-Man films. Additionally, there are also hints of two more titles the studio might be working on, including a third mainline Spider-Man game, and another mystery game.

Will there be a Spider-Verse game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series?

According to recent leaks, Insomniac Games might have a Spider-Verse project in the works.

The leak includes mentions of “Spider-Verse” alongside references to existing Spider-Man titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2, as well as the yet-to-be officially announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The foundation for a third game was laid during the ending of Spider-Man 2.

The references to a Spider-Verse strongly suggest that there will be some sort of video game product from Insomniac, though it’s unclear what that project might be and how it might fit into its Spider-Man series. There are several possibilities.

An Insomniac-made AAA multiplayer game has been the subject of news and rumors for a long while now, with the title reportedly in the works alongside Marvel’s Wolverine and Spider-Man 2. Fans think that these leaks might be alluding to a Spider-Verse title, which would make sense as players could create their own Spider-Man or Spider-Woman.

Silk Comics

Insomniac’s Peter Parker Spider-Man made an appearance in the latest Spider-Verse movie and a secondary storyline in Spider-Man 2 also has a direct reference to the Spider-Verse. The game also teased the introduction of Silk, one of the many different Spider-Woman characters in the comics and the protagonist of the upcoming Silk: Spider Society TV series.

Sony’s plan might be for Insomniac to work on game tie-ins that promote Sony’s other projects with licensed Marvel projects. The introduction of Silk in Spider-Man 2 could also set up a “Spider-Verse” DLC, where players will have even more Spider characters to control.

Alternatively, the mention of Spider-Verse in the leaks might be because Insomniac had to share assets with the production team of Across the Spider-Verse. The Peter Parker from Insomniac’s games appears in the film alongside many other iterations of the character.

Spider-Man 3 confirmed in Insomniac leak alongside mystery “RCE” game

The recent Insomniac Games leak suggests the studio might be working on Spider-Man 3, a Spider-Verse title, and another game labeled “RCE.” This is in addition to the upcoming Wolverine title.

It is unknown what RCE stands for, but some fans believe that it might be a collection of Insomniac’s dormant first-person shooter series, Resistance, which has been collecting dust since the early 2010s. A Resistance Collection came out on the PlayStation 3 in 2012, and an enhanced version for the PS5 may be in the works.

Other fans think that RCE is simply a codename for Insomniac’s 2021 title Ratch and Clank: Rift Apart. The “RC” in the name and its placement on the list between Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 aligns with Insomniac’s release schedule.
