The newly released Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC proved too hard for streamer Asmongold, prompting him to briefly quit.

After years of anticipation, Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC launched to critical and user acclaim. Many players find the DLC tougher than the base game, which already has the trademark FromSoftware difficulty. While most players and streamers like Kai Cenat and Anders “Ludwig” Ahgren, are pushing through the expansion, Asmongold decided to quit.

After multiple deaths in the Elden Ring DLC, Asmongold decided the game was too difficult for him and put the controller down. However, his previous comments caused controversies and the ire of his player base, as some called him a hypocrite. The backlash prompted him to resume his run of the game.

Why did Asmongold stop playing the Elden Ring DLC?

Asmongold stated in a stream that he stopped playing the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC because it was too hard to be fun. However, he resumed his playthrough the next day after major backlash.

When a viewer asks Asmongold if he finished the DLC, he responds that he stopped playing it because of its extremely high difficulty. He elaborated by saying that he continued to get stun-locked by every enemy in the game, followed by his character getting locked in animation.

According to Asmongold, he could beat the DLC “if he wanted to.” However, he didn’t want to sit through “more than 50” attempts at every boss by repeatedly dying before finally winning once, so he decided to stop it for then. Asmongold also stated his personal issues further prompted him to stop playing such a difficult game as it might not be good for him.

Even though Asmongold quit Elden Ring’s DLC midway, he completed the base game in 2022. However, he did so by mostly using the same strategy and build. The streamer’s decision to quit the DLC was criticized by fans as they felt he didn’t try to progress. He didn’t use summons, try to strategize around enemy movesets, change his build, or explore the rest of the Land of Shadows.

Asmongold previously proclaimed that video game media shouldn’t review games as most don’t possess the required skills to play them as intended. Despite that, he found himself tapping out on a game that was universally praised by critics.

His decision to drop one of the most anxiously awaited games because of the difficulty was considered hypocritical by many, which is why he came back the next day to continue his DLC run. Now, he’s actually exploring other areas and collecting Scadutree Fragment blessings.

What games is Asmongold streaming?

Asmongold is still streaming the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, while also dabbling in World of Warcraft.

After facing criticism for quitting the Elden Ring DLC because of his difficulty, streamer Asmongold returned with another Elden Ring stream. This time, he turned back and started exploring the rest of the map while collecting Scadutree Fragment blessings.

His stream description states “Elden Ring DLC do or die,” suggesting he’ll sit through the entire game until completion this time. However, it remains to be seen how he deals with bosses more difficult than even the Divine Beast Dancing Lion who he struggled against.
