Black Ops 6, Call of Duty on Game Pass may get revealed soon

Treyarch may announce Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, colloquially referred to as Black Ops 6, in the near future alongside a potential update regarding the series’ Xbox Game Pass potential.

With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft finished in 2023, the goal in 2024 and beyond is to make a return on the deal. The success of Call of Duty is a major component in that, both in terms of maintaining its consistently strong sales and using its visibility to attract people to Xbox’s hardware and services. As the most successful franchise under the Activision umbrella, Call of Duty ought to be a cash cow for Microsoft.

Black Ops 6 will be the first game published with Activision as part of Xbox Game Studios, making it a particularly high-stakes release for both parties. Fans will reportedly get their first taste of it in June.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reportedly will be part of Xbox Games Showcase event

Microsoft will reportedly host an Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, 2024, featuring the upcoming Call of Duty game.

The Verge’s Tom Warren reports that Xbox is planning a “big summer showcase” for its major upcoming releases, and Call of Duty made the list. The showcase may finally confirm details for Black Ops Gulf War that fans have speculated about for months. The game has been the subject of multiple leaks, with highlights including the returns of Zombies and the beloved Tranzit map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Alongside this is the possibility of Call of Duty games arriving on Xbox Game Pass. While there have been multiple indications that the series will not get day-one releases, there’s 20 years of back catalog to work with at this point with almost every game claiming a soft spot in some fans’ hearts.

Avowed, Indiana Jones, and Gears 6 reportedly set to be highlighted next to Black Ops Gulf War

Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War will reportedly share the stage alongside games such as Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Gears of War 6.

The lineup of announced games for Summer 2024’s Xbox Games Showcase will almost entirely be comprised of games from Xbox Game Studios. Despite fears of some fans that Xbox would kill exclusives entirely, Microsoft has made aggressive moves to build up its own family of studios and seems positioned to finally show it.

The upcoming Hellblade 2 will be Xbox’s first high-profile release for 2024 and should set the tone for the rest of the year. Gears 6 is another hotly anticipated title that could help bring back jaded Xbox fans.

Microsoft has not officially confirmed any Xbox Showcase event in June.
