Can you play as Harry Potter in Quidditch Champions?

Harry Potter Quidditch Champions

It’s hard to picture Hogwarts without Harry Potter, but some fans are confused about whether the Boy Who Lived will be a playable character in Quidditch Champions.

Until recently, not much was known about Quidditch Champions, a competitive multiplayer game focused on Quidditch, a sport famous in the Harry Potter novels. Despite bearing his name, the game’s promotional materials have largely centered around original player characters. Given how games like Hogwarts Legacy stepped away from the novels, some fans were left wondering if familiar faces like Harry and Draco Malfoy would appear in the upcoming title.

The answer has now been confirmed now been confirmed.

Can you play as Harry Potter in Quidditch Champions?

Quidditch Champions will include Harry Potter as a playable character, alongside others from the books and films.

Quidditch Champions has both pre-made characters and character customization options. Much of the promotion has focused on the game allowing Harry Potter fans to recreate their own likeness in the world of Hogwarts. While many will do so, some fans still wondered if they could be popular characters from the movies.

In a recent trailer, it was confirmed that iconic characters are in the game. The known characters mentioned so far include:

  • Harry Potter
  • Draco Malfoy
  • Ron Weasley
  • Ginny Weasley
  • Cho Chang

It’s not as straightforward as fans may think, however.

In the books, each established character has a role they play on the field. For example, Harry Potter is a Seeker while Ron is a Keeper. But in the trailer and the playtests, these characters were not tied to any specific role. It appears being Harry Potter or any other known character has no real impact on the gameplay at all.

The popular characters are more like a skin rather than an actual player in a sports game with unique ratings and abilities. It’s currently not clear how these skins will be used in the final game, but in the recent beta, participants noticed skins had to be purchased. This means it will likely cost money to play as Harry Potter in Quidditch Champions. It may also be similar to Fortnite and other games where the skins are not all available at launch or at all times.

Will there be more Harry Potter characters in Quidditch Champions?

According to a recent Quidditch Champions trailer, “many more” known characters from the books will become playable in the game.

It’s unclear who these characters will be, however. The trailer pans over to Hermione Granger,  Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom when discussing “many more” to come but fans know these characters never played Quidditch. It’s possible that is not a factor in whether or not they will be playable, of course.

A notable character that’s missing is Viktor Krum, a popular Seeker from the books known for his skills and some questionable decisions made due to his competitive nature.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions comes out September 3, 2024. Just a few more days until fans find out if Harry Potter is a playable character when the game is launched.
