A recent job listing from Hogwarts Legacy co-developer Studio Gobo has sparked speculation that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development.
Despite the overwhelming controversy surrounding Hogwarts Legacy’s release in 2023 due to transphobic statements by JK Rowling on social media, the game was the best-selling single-player title of the year. The game received solid reviews from critics. There was little question that a sequel would be released at some point.
No official word has come out yet on anything regarding the game, but a notable entertainment industry leaker said that a sequel was in the works in September. A new job listing from Studio Gobo may have been a bit of a reassurance.
Is Hogwarts Legacy 2 in development?
There is no official word that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, but job listings and previous studio statements indicate that another Hogwarts Legacy game is in production.
Studio Gobo is one of the studios that worked on Hogwarts Legacy. According to job listings on Studio Gobo’s website, the studio is currently working on an “unannounced AAA console game” featuring “storytelling in Unreal Engine 5.” The studio is looking for an environmental artist and a lead designer for this project. Hogwarts Legacy was made in Unreal Engine 4.
There is no indication what this game will be, but the developer’s previous work on Hogwarts Legacy, the fact that this project is explicitly a “AAA console game” made in Unreal Engine 5, and the leak suggesting Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in the works has led to speculation that the game might be in development. But while Studio Gobo working on a new AAA game is notable, it’s not guaranteed to be Hogwarts Legacy.
Last year, Studio Gobo announced that it had become a “co-development partner” for the Horizon universe with Guerrilla Games. This could indicate that the job listing is related to an upcoming Horizon project and not a Hogwarts Legacy game.
There are multiple Horizon-related projects in the works at the moment. There are signs that the officially confirmed Horizon MMO may be approaching a larger reveal and in 2023, it was confirmed that Horizon 3 is in the works. While it’s unclear whether Studio Gobo’s job listing is related to Hogwarts Legacy 2, the game’s development is still a matter of “when” and not “if.”
