Star Wars Outlaws gives the player a few choices throughout the narrative, but do these decisions translate to multiple endings?
For many fans, Star Wars Outlaws is the open-world Star Wars game they’ve always wanted. Exploring the galaxy as a smuggler, with no loyalty to anybody but themselves, is the dream of many a Star Wars fan. Of course, loyalty can be bought, and Star Wars Outlaws has multiple factions willing to pay up.
From the notorious Hutt Cartel to the honorable rogues of the Ashiga clan, each faction sculpts Kay Vess’s adventure. While players can roleplay their version of Kay, some might wonder if her actions have actual consequences for the game’s ending.
Does Star Wars Outlaws have multiple endings?
Star Wars Outlaws has only one ending, and the player’s choices do not affect it.
Unfortunately for fans who want their choices to have an impact, Star Wars Outlaws does not deliver. The ending for Star Wars Outlaws remains the same, regardless of the player’s decisions. In the end, Kay Vess reunites with her mother while disguised as an Imperial Officer.
Given the timeline of Star Wars Outlaws takes place in the middle of Episodes 5 and 6, Kay’s actions can’t shake up the galaxy too much. While the ending remains unchanged, some of the original additions do have some major narrative changes. For example, the Ashiga Clan is a Ubisoft creation and doesn’t have to fit into to any existing canon.
In the quest The Hive, the player can ultimately decide who becomes the Ashiga Clan’s next leader. The Crimson Dawn also goes through some significant changes throughout the Star Wars Outlaws narrative, despite its prior canon. Whether the Ashiga Clan will return in non-video game Star Wars media, or if the shakeups to the Crimson Dawn appear on-screen, is unknown. Other than that, the player’s choices mostly just affect what rewards they get, either credits or reputation gains.
Many fans criticized this aspect of Star Wars Outlaws, as it makes the player feel less important in the grand scheme of things. Overall, if players wanted something akin to Mass Effect but in the Star Wars universe, they would be disappointed by the lack of impactful choices.
But of course, people would be much angrier if the game instead had Kay casually gun down Boba Fett or Lando Calrissian.
