Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a long game, but farming early-level XP can make those hours much easier.
Bioware has had a rough few years, but fans consider Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a return to form for the company. The improvements to gameplay and continuation of Inquisition’s story made Veilguard a solid start on Bioware’s road to redemption.
As a result, many former fans have given Veilguard a chance. However, newbies and rusty fans alike may struggle with certain points in the early game if they rush too fast. Farming as much XP as possible in the easiest parts of the game is key to a wholesome Veilguard experience.
The best ways to farm early-level XP in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Exploring the map and finding easy respawn locations to clear are the best methods for farming XP in the early portions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While much of the early-game XP farming boils down to simply playing the game, some options are more rewarding for the time investment. Here are the best options available.
Explore the map
The moment Dragon Age: The Veilguard lets the player explore the map, it’s worth exploring everything for both the loot and the early XP. While they don’t necessarily have to do side quests yet, a fuller early-game map means it’s easier to go back and do anything missed due to story progression. Exploring the map guarantees more loot and more XP simply from fighting more enemies.
Whenever entering a new area, always clear out the map of enemies. Not only do players get a good feel for the revamped combat, but it also maximizes the XP gain early on. Plus, finding Fen’Harel Altars (glowing dog statues) leads to even greater rewards.
Farm enemy respawns
Speaking of respawns, enemies will always return after reloading a region, making them a fantastic source of XP. While admittedly slower than doing quests, the biggest boon of enemy respawns is it is essentially infinite.
For players digging for that one last skill point after a side quest, farming enemies is a solid way to stay ahead of the game’s difficulty ceiling. Take this opportunity to try untested gear or skills, as it is much safer than quest encounters.
Do sidequests
As with any RPG, the most rewarding XP gains come from doing side quests. On top of just being more fun, every side quest grants rewards and XP that can speed up a player’s progress significantly. Faction-specific quests make up the bulk of these side activities.
However, exploring the map will also reveal side quests from non-faction NPCs. Early on, players should do side quests until there’s nothing left in terms of XP, then progress through Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s story. After finishing a main quest, check the map for any new side quests. Progressing too fast in the story may result in locked-out side quests, especially for companions.
Companion quests are a strong source of early-game XP in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
While doing all the other activities above, make sure to mix up the spread of companions. Doing so will strengthen companion bonds, unlock dialogue options, and, most importantly, start companion quests. These offer additional player XP and rewards.
While it’s tempting to stick to favorites, those pursuing the maximum XP gain should switch things up regularly. Plus, players may miss out on cool story moments and rewards if they only do one companion story in the early game.
