Fear and Hunger fans are always looking for more and there’s both good news and bad news on the Fear and Hunger 3 front.
Fear and Hunger offers a unique dark fantasy setting that fans just can’t get enough of. The good thing is that the sheer replayability of both the original game and its sequel has kept them enjoyable for a long while. The bad thing is that with Fear and Hunger 2: Termina now more than three years old and the original more than seven, lots of players have played the titles so extensively that they’ve seen and done it all.
That means that there’s a significant appetite for Fear and Hunger 3. So what do we actually know about the game and is it actually real? Here’s everything we know.
Will there be a Fear and Hunger 3?
Fear and Hunger creator Miro Haverinen has confirmed that he intends to work on a Fear and Hunger 3 in posts on Twitter and other social media channels.
In 2024, Haverinen spoke with fans on multiple occasions regarding his plans for the future of Fear and Hunger. During those chats, he explicitly discussed his plans for Fear and Hunger 3. Or something of that nature, at least. Throughout the year, Haverinen went back and forth with fans regarding the future of the series.
In multiple posts, he explicitly said that he intends to make another Fear and Hunger game. He alluded to major changes coming in the third installment to the point where many fans won’t like it. That included floating the possibility that the next game may warrant dropping the “Fear and Hunger” name entirely.
Regardless, Haverinen has confirmed that he plans on making a Fear and Hunger 3. With the Fear and Hunger 2: Termina update still in the works, however, odds are that the game is far away from release. And by all accounts, he hasn’t even begun working on it.
Fear and Hunger 3 story details confirmed
The creator of Fear and Hunger has confirmed some story details and series he is drawing inspiration from for his next game.
According to Haverinen, Fear and Hunger 3 will take place in fairly modern times, saying it will probably take place in the 2000s or 2010s. Unsurprisingly, he also confirmed that it will feature a different cast of characters and a new story. It’s still set to be a continuation of the established canon, though it’s unclear how the story will be impacted.

The “true” ending to Fear and Hunger 1 is left vague and various elements of multiple endings are confirmed to have happened in Fear and Hunger 2: Termina. Legarde becomes the Yellow King, the girl becomes the God of Fear and Hunger, Ragnavaldr and Moonless both survive, and so on. Fear and Hunger 2 can end on the rise of the Machine God or Sulfur God. One or both of these gods will likely have a role in the story.
Haverinen also stated that the story is partly inspired by various media properties, including The Twilight Saga, Final Fantasy 7, and 1979’s The Warriors film. This should make for another unique setting for Fear and Hunger 3, whenever it comes out.
That said, much of the game remains a mystery at this point. It’s uncertain whether it will carry forward the dismemberment-focused combat, offer a stable of characters to choose from like in Fear and Hunger 2, or retain any other gameplay mechanics from the first games.
