Gohan Black will reportedly appear for the first time in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero; here’s everything to know about the character.
After years of being separated from a true arena fighter, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero returns to the Budokai Tenkaichi hype. With a stacked roster of Dragon Ball characters from several eras, it may be the biggest fighting game in series history.
In addition to the plethora of revealed characters, fans are also hyped over any newcomers. After all, Dragon Ball games often feature story modes that tackle exciting “what-if” scenarios that rival fan fiction in their excess. A recent leak showcases one what-if scenario that’s enraptured fans.
Is Gohan Black in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero?
Gohan Black will appear in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s story mode.
A Redditor shared leaked images of Gohan Black in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s story mode alongside Zamasu. Evil versions of iconic characters are the bread-and-butter of Dragon Ball game story modes. Even so, Gohan Black has a cool factor that fans can’t get enough of.
After all, Goku Black represents everything Goku isn’t. However, as Dragon Ball Super’s plot revealed, Goku Black wasn’t Goku at all. He was actually a version of Zamasu from a different timeline. Gohan Black is likely an alternative version of Zamasu and stole Gohan’s body.
The implications of Gohan Black’s presence means evil versions of other characters may appear in the game’s story. As for whether Gohan Black will be playable, that remains unknown. However, fans believe Gohan Black will be a skin than a separate character. It lines up with the lack of Gohan Black in the leaked final roster.
Is Gohan Black canon?
Gohan Black will not be made canon based on his appearance in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
Earlier Budokai Tenkaichi games also loved what-if scenarios that were non-canonical. For example, in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, a player could defeat King Piccolo too early and make Tambourine the new arc villain. It was imperative in certain modes to defeat villains the way they died in the show to avoid a game over.
With Sparking Zero having access to a new decade of Dragon Ball stories, fans are excited about the possibilities for their favorite characters. Gohan Black may just be the harbinger of more evil versions to come. That said, fans shouldn’t expect these characters to start appearing in Dragon Ball Daima or the Dragon Ball Super manga any time soon.
