The trailer for the Dragon Ball Daima anime series has arrived with release date info, and fans can’t wait to see one more story from the legend Akira Toriyama.
The Dragon Ball franchise had an uncertain future after creator Akira Toriyama’s death in March 2024. Before his passing, Toriyama was hard at work on Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Daima. The latter began without his input, but Toriyama slowly became involved and began to write stories and character designs for the project.
Unfortunately, he passed away before the project’s release. However, a team of dedicated artists and writers have taken on Toriyama’s work. From veterans who’ve worked with Toriyama to younger talents who’ve worked on One Punch Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, there’s no doubt about Daima’s creative potential. Finally, fans can see the passion behind Dragon Ball Daima for themselves with a fresh trailer for the anime and set aside some time on its release date.
What is Dragon Ball Daima?
Dragon Ball Daima is an original anime series following kid versions of Goku and his friends.
The story follows Goku and company as they fight against a mysterious new foe who has turned them into children. Lacking his usual Super Saiyan strength, Goku has to fight with his iconic power pole once again, a sight not seen in a long time. Based on the trailer and Toei’s official media synopsis, most of the anime will take place on a new planet.
Fans of the original Dragon Ball will certainly appreciate a return to whimsical adventures. Some uncertain fans worry it may feel more like Dragon Ball GT rather than the original series. However, unlike GT, Toriyama has openly shown his support for the new story.
“I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual!” Toriyama jokingly said about working on Dragon Ball Daima.
When is Dragon Ball Daima’s release date?
Dragon Ball Daima will premiere on October 2024, coinciding with the franchise’s 40th anniversary. No exact date has been confirmed.
Some fans wonder what’s next for Dragon Ball after Daima finishes its series run. In particular, fans wonder whether the Dragon Ball Super manga will continue without Toriyama, much like Berserk did with its manga continuing after Kentaro Miura’s passing.
Fans expect Toyotarou to take up most of Dragon Ball Super’s final arcs, given the artist’s closeness to Toriyama. Even eagle-eyed Dragon Ball fans would struggle to see a difference in Toriyama and Toyotarou’s art. Either way, Dragon Ball fans still have plenty to look forward to in 2024.
