With the release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on the horizon, those on the fence about buying it will want to know when they can expect the review embargo to lift and details to surface.
BioWare is one of the most beloved Western RPG developers. Or at least, it was. Having developed the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series, the studio dominated much of the Western gaming scene in the early 2010s. However, things slowed down after the release of the 2014 Game of the Year winner, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The most recent games in the EA-owned studio’s portfolio include Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem. Those two critical and commercial flops were followed by layoffs and controversies involving the studio. The studio has a chance to redeem itself to some degree with Dragon Age: The Veilguard; here’s when the review embargo for the fourth installment in the Dragon Age series is lifting.
When will Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s review embargo lift?
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s review embargo will reportedly lift on Monday, October 28, 2024.
This news comes from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming. This means reviews for Dragon Age: The Veilguard will start rolling out three days before the game goes live.
The exact time fans can expect reviews is unknown. Oftentimes, this lands on 9 am PT. Additionally, Dragon Age: Veilguard pre-loads will go live on PlayStation 5 a day later, so it makes sense to lift the review embargo around that time.
The hype for the much-awaited next entry in the Dragon Age series is high. However, the hits to BioWare’s reputation have some fans on the fence about buying anything from them.
The timing of Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s review embargo lifting is the industry norm. Publishers like Square Enix have lifted review embargoes weeks ahead of games’ official releases to build excitement. Dragon Age fans shouldn’t worry, though, as it’s not unusual for high-quality games to have their review embargos lift a few days in advance.
How long is Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
A playthrough of Dragon Age: The Veilguard can reportedly take up to 100 hours.
According to an interview between YouTuber NorZZa and Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director Corinne Busche and producer Jen Cheverie, fans can expect the game to be jam-packed with content.
However, as is the norm with RPGs, it’s hard to judge how long a playthrough can take thanks to the number of distractions. Some players might want to just sprint through the main story, while others might want to spend time learning about and romancing party members.
A developer reportedly stated they finished a playthrough that took them 100 hours, but that likely wasn’t a streamlined run. Dragon Age: The Veilguard has three main story acts, and the first is the longest since it has the most initial lore. Additionally, story leaks for the game suggest it might have multiple endings, so fans can expect to spend a lot of time in the world of Dragon Age.
