Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 getting DLC? Here’s what we know

Capcom released Dragon’s Dogma 2 to critical acclaim and moderate controversy, but will it follow in its prequel’s footsteps and get a major DLC expansion?

Critics praised Dragon’s Dogma 2 for its gameplay and freedom but fans had a more mixed response thanks to performance issues and Capcom’s nickel-and-dime microtransactions. The developers revealed a long list of features that will be changed or added in upcoming patches, but the content updates likely won’t end there and won’t necessarily stay free.

Despite the game’s rocky launch, the expectation is that the game will receive a DLC expansion due to a new leak and a survey. Coupled with Capcom precedent, there’s already a pretty clear picture of what Dragon’s Dogma 2 will get in terms of DLC and when it might come out.

Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 have DLC?

Capcom has not announced plans for Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC, but the company asked users whether they’d purchase DLC in a user survey.

“Would you be interested in purchasing DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2 if additional contents were to be released?” Capcom’s user survey asks in a required question. The survey also mentioned Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, an expanded version of the first game that came out a year after the initial release.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been at the center of gaming discourse since its launch and that goes for purported leaks as well. A 4chan user claims that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will get a DLC expansion in the future, which will include new monsters, enemies, and a new story alongside a second map as big as the one in the base game. According to the leak, the DLC will be entitled “Dragon Princess” and will be even longer than Dark Arisen, which lasted more than 20 hours.

The 4chan leak states that the DLC will cost around $29.99. Many major DLCs have been around that price point, like Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and Persona 3 Reload: Expansion Pass.

While no notable journalists or leakers have corroborated any facet of the 4Chan leak, it’s fairly safe to assume DLC is coming since every original Capcom game in recent years has had significant, paid, post-release content. The Resident Evil 4 remake has Separate Ways, Street Fighter 6 continues to get new characters, Resident Evil 7 received numerous mini-games and a story expansion, and more. While games like the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes haven’t received expansions, it’s still more likely than not that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will receive a large helping of new content.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC release date info

Though Capcom hasn’t confirmed any DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2, precedent suggests it could come out anywhere from late 2024 to late 2025.

The first Dragon’s Dogma received its Dark Arisen DLC around a year after its launch. While Capcom might continue the trend for Dragon’s Dogma 2 a late 2024 release is also possible. The last major Capcom game, Resident Evil 4, had DLC about 6 months after the title’s initial release. That could foretell a quick turnaround Dragon’s Dogma 2’s possible expansion.

On the flipside, if the DLC is as substantial as fans undoubtedly hope, it could take longer. The biggest DLC Capcom has released in recent years was Resident Evil 8’s The Winters’ Expansion which came out almost a year and a half after the initial release.
