Leblanc is set to become the next champion getting to receive a VGU in League of Legends and it may have some surprising implications for Arcane.
Visual gameplay updates, or VGUs, are rather controversial in League of Legends. Some fans complain that the champions who really need updates are neglected. Others simply don’t like the new changes, as seen with the upcoming Viktor rework based off of Arcane. Now, data mines show a new champion is receiving a VGU and it may get fans worked up.
Here’s what is known so far about a new Leblanc VGU and what it may indicate for the future of Arcane.
Data mines confirm that a Leblanc VGU is in the works
Leblanc is getting a full rework released sometime in the first half of 2025.
A source for League Of Leaks on X shared images of file names mined from the game client and its public beta version. The titles confirm that developers are giving Leblanc a VGU that will be rolled out in both Teamfight Tactics and the main League of Legends client. The account also added that her rework would come sometime during the upcoming season starting in 2025. This puts her release date sometime between January and April 2025.
No further details are known about any changes to Leblanc’s appearances or abilities in the VGU. Some speculate that the new model could include aspects of her Arcane persona.
Could the new VGU hint at the next season of Arcane?
Considering everything else known so far, the new Leblanc VGU could also serve as a tease for Arcane’s next chapter.
In Arcane, Leblanc is the shadowy Noxus-born leader and deceiver of the Black Rose who kidnaps and attempts to manipulate Mel. Though Mel seemingly kills her on screen, Leblanc is much too tricky to be taken out that easily. Leblanc playing a major off-screen role in the series and receiving a sudden VGU certainly hints that she’ll be a key figure for Riot Games moving forward.
League is pushing hard for the region of Noxus to take center stage. The next champion is likely to be Noxian Arcane character Mel Medarda. Arcane showrunners have also suggested that Noxus is one of the potential settings for the show’s next season, or its successor Adding in a Leblanc rework only lends more credence to the theory that the next season of Arcane will be in Noxus.
Developers will release Leblanc’s VGU alongside the first LoL “season” in 2025, which will be set in Noxus. Fans can look forward to seeing what direction they decide to take her design, and what other hints for the future it may hold.
