With this guide, players can live up to the moniker of “The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” in Marvel Rivals.
From the very first day of launch, Marvel Rivals has exploded in popularity. The mixture of Marvel’s popularity and a thirst for games like Overwatch 2 (but good) among fans meant it was a match made in heaven. In only three days, Marvel Rivals garnered over 10 million players, a number that’s likely to rise with each passing month.
Marvel Rivals features three main roles: vanguards, strategists, and duelists. One of the most popular characters among fans is the duelist Squirrel Girl. Since her reveal trailer, Squirrel Girl has remained trending on Twitter/X thanks to her memorable design and fun gameplay. Despite Squirrel Girl’s seemingly simple skillset, she’s the very model of an unorthodox duelist.
All Squirrel Girl abilities in Marvel Rivals explained
Squirrel Girl is a bouncy character, from her projectiles to mobility. This Squirrel Girl guide for Marvel Rivals will explain how these abilities maximize that bounciness. Firing acorns off corners, jumping out of danger, and unleashing hordes of squirrels against unsuspecting enemies.
Burst Acorn
Squirrel Girl fires an arced acorn projectile, which bounces once before exploding if it hits a surface. Unlike the cavalcade of guns, knives, and energy blasts, Squirrel Girl relies on her trusty slingshot. Her acorns pack a punch, dealing 110 damage per hit. It also generates a small explosion, which deals 70% less damage to foes in a 3-meter radius of the impact zone.
Burst acorns simply explode when they hit foes directly. If the acorn hits a surface, it will bounce once and explode on the next surface it comes into contact with. TF2 Demoman and Overwatch Junkrat players will be very familiar with this projectile behavior.
The key to racking up impressive KOs with Squirrel Girl is bouncing acorns on walls and ceilings. Most duelists have to deal damage head-on, making them easier to avoid or counter. Squirrel Girl has the advantage of being able to shoot people even when she can’t see them. For example, a Black Widow may be hiding behind some tall cover.
Instead of waiting for their peek, shoot at the ceiling above her to bounce acorns down on her head. If there’s a sharp turn in a hallway with no visibility, Squirrel Girl can fire acorns to check for an ambush. Her arced projectile also means it can go above cover, so players with good aim can rain acorns down without ever being seen themselves.
Tail Bounce
Squirrel Girl can jump up to nine meters in the air. Tail Bounce is a simple mobility tool that allows her to quickly get vertical. Players can use Tail Bounce to reach rooftops and other high places, for whatever reason they see fit. On rooftops, it’s easier to rain down acorns on crowded foes or take out pesky flyers.
In a pinch, Squirrel Girl players can bounce out of trouble, especially against melee characters. It’s also a very handy counter against Jeff, as Squirrel Girl can simply guide herself back onto land after Jeff spits her out.
Squirrel Blockade
Squirrel Girl throws a giant acorn full of squirrels, which hold an opponent in place for a short time. The acorn itself doesn’t deal much damage, but the ability to hold down opponents makes it a crucial part of her kit. During team clashes, Squirrel Blockade can lock down healers to make them easy pickings for friendly DPS.
In a chase, it can keep flyers and fast characters grounded for more acorn damage. If it’s Squirrel Girl being chased, she can stop the opponent in their tracks and then bounce out of the way. The giant acorn also bounces, giving it the same unorthodox quality as the Burst Acorn.
Mammal Bond
Squirrel Girl reloads all her Burst Acrons and can use an ability without cooldown once for five seconds. Mammal Bond is what enables Squirrel Girl’s fast-paced playstyle. Triple jumps with Tail Bounce and a barrage of Squirrel Blockades keep her dynamic on the battlefield. It also adds a layer of unpredictability to Squirrel Girl. Foes won’t know if they have an extra jump or blockade ready.
Webbed Acorn (Spider-Man Team-up)
Squirrel Girl fires a webbed acorn that explodes on contact, imprisoning any enemies hit within its radius. Webbed Acorn is an extra ability that’s essentially a buff of Squirrel Blockade. It can potentially damage and immobilize multiple foes.
In exchange for being more powerful, Webbed Acorn does have a longer cooldown. Still, with Mammal Bond, the team-up gives Squirrel Girl three immobilizing projectiles in quick succession. Squirrel Girl mains can thank the Spider-Man player by holding down a slippery foe for a beatdown.
Unbeatable Squirrel Tsunami
Squirrel Girl’s ultimate ability unleashes a horde of squirrels that deals damage and bounces against structures for 10 seconds. Map awareness is a must for this skill. The horde will go in a straight line until it hits a surface, so it’s best to fire the squirrels toward grouped-up opponents. Firing the skill in an open space means it’s unlikely to hit anything. Pop Squirrel Tsunami in tight corridors and similarly enclosed spaces to rack up KOs.
