With Tekken 8 just two months away, many fans are excited to learn more about Tekken 8’s new characters, with the most recent being French fighter Victor Chevalier.
In August, fans were introduced to Jack-8, the latest model in the Jack line of humanoid weapons. August also saw the debut of Azucena, a Peruvian mixed martial artist known for intuition-driven fighting style. Now, the spotlight is on Victor Chevalier, who wields an array of weapons reminiscent of Tekken 7’s guest character Noctis.
While the Final Fantasy 15 protagonist likely isn’t returning, this new character will fill the edgy gap left by his absence. Here’s the first look at him and how he fits into the overall Tekken mythos.
Who is Victor Chevalier in Tekken 8?
Victor Chevalier is a new character coming in Tekken 8. He hasn’t appeared in any previous games but will be established as a key behind-the-scenes figure and will likely be a big part of the Tekken 8 story.
The official Tekken website describes him as a “living legend” who comes from a line of distinguished knights and aspires to be a hero who serves those in need. This led him to follow in his father’s footsteps and enlist in the French Navy. Soon after, he became the leader and founder of the United Nations Independent Forces, which directly opposes evil corporations such as the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corp. He is also known for founding and training the Raven Unit, which directly links him to characters such as Raven and Master Raven from Tekken 5 and Tekken 7, respectively.
Victor’s voice is expertly portrayed in the reveal trailer by renowned French actor Vincent Cassel. Cassel is best known for his roles in movies such as Jason Bourne and Black Swan, as well as the TV series Westworld.
Is Noctis in Tekken 8?
Victor Chevalier is set to replace Noctis and has a thematically similar play style and move set.
Victor’s moves are reminiscent of Noctis from Tekken 7, having similar teleportation abilities and a sword. As seen in the trailer, he can utilize his blade to deliver powerful blows and dodge incoming attacks by teleporting around opponents while delivering his own powerful overhead sword strike, similar to Noctis’ modus operandi.
What sets Victor apart from Noctis is how he seamlessly integrates a pistol into his attack animations to interrupt enemy combos. Victor also makes use of Tekken 8’s new Heat Gauge feature to enhance his overhead sword attacks and acquire different buffs or cancel into other combat stances. It remains to be seen how he will handle in Tekken 8’s “special style” control scheme.
Tekken 8 is scheduled for release on January 26, 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game will feature 32 characters at launch.
With Victor, the full roster for the base game is confirmed. The game will continue to add characters through DLC, and the first season is expected to add four characters.
