New Arcane Season 2 poster teases returning characters, story info

Ekko league of legends

A poster for Arcane Season 2 has revealed many returning characters, and that has major story implications.

The long-awaited second season of Arcane is coming to Netflix later this year. Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, with Jinx attacking the Council and a previous trailer hinted that everyone involved has died. Fans were curious what this would mean for the ongoing war between Piltover and Zaun, and whether it would lead to other nations joining the conflict.

Now, a trailer for Season 2 has led to even more questions. The poster has Ambessa Medarda, Caitlyn, Ekko, Jayce, Jinx, Mel Medarda, Vi, and Viktor. But wait, weren’t some of these characters dead in Season 1?

Did Mel Medarda die at the end of Arcane Season 1?

Mel Medarda seemingly survived the events of Arcane Season 1.

In the final episode, Jinx sends a Super Mega Death Rocket into the Piltover Council chamber. Mel is in the room when the rocket hits, and is seemingly killed alongside much of the council. The first official teaser trailer for Arcane Season 2 opens with Mel’s mother saying the council is dead, and Ambessa’s continued presence suggests that this could be a major component of the story.

Now, the poster seems to show Mel Medarda alive and well.

How Mel factors into Arcane’s final season is a big question. Her relationship with Jayce isn’t fully developed. While Jayce hasn’t actually been shown in any trailers either, he has an extra layer of “plot armor” as an actual playable character in League of Legends.

How Mel survived, and how many other members of the council may have made it out, remains unknown.

Heimerdinger and Ekko getting a bigger story role in Arcane Season 2

Heimerdinger and Ekko are seemingly set to stick around and play a significant role in Arcane Season 2.

Heimerdinger was a renowned scientist, professor, and head of the council at the start of Arcane. Later on, Jayce gained political influence through the popularity of the Hex Core and had him ejected from the council.

After being sent out, Heimerdinger headed to Zaun. During this time, Heimerdinger came across Ekko and his hoverboard and traveled back to the Firelight base. While it seemed like this might usher the characters out of the show, to make room for other champions who will appear, that’s evidently not the case. The pair are pictured alongside the main cast members, suggesting they’ll remain a big part of the story in Arcane Season 2.
