As of September 3, 2024, several new Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Galar region have been added to Pokemon GO.
There were already plenty of Galar Pokemon in the game to begin with, including regional forms and cover legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta. However, this update finally brings all three Galarian starter Pokemon and their evolutions to Pokemon GO, alongside a few others.
Listed below is every newly added Pokemon, alongside information on how to catch or obtain them. At the time of writing, the GO All Out event is running, which also makes obtaining some Pokemon easier than normal. This event runs from September 3 to September 10, but these Pokemon will still be available in-game even after the event ends.

All Galar Pokemon added to Pokemon GO in September 2024
Pokemon GO will add all three Galarian starters and their evolutions, the pseudo-legendary Dragapult evolutionary line, and Stonjourner.
Almost all of the most recognizable, popular, and powerful Pokemon from Galar are now accounted for in Pokemon GO. The eighth-generation starters are straightforward and expected additions, even if they strangely arrive after the Paldean starters of gen-nine.
Grookey, Thwackey, and Rillaboom
Grookey is the grass-type starter Pokemon of Galar, and is set to appear more frequently during the GO All Out event. It can also be hatched from 5km eggs. In addition, there are event-themed Field Research tasks that can lead to a Grookey encounter as well as the Max Out Special Research, which lets players choose one of the three starters to adventure with.
Those who want the little grass monkey will obviously want to pick Grookey to get a guaranteed encounter upon completing enough tasks.
Thwackey is the evolved form of Grookey. So, rather than hunt one in the wild, players’ best bet for acquiring one is to evolve a Grookey. This can be done by feeding it 25 Grookey candy, which can be obtained by catching more Grookey and completing Adventure with Grookey tasks.
Rillaboom is a drum-playing gorilla and Grookey’s final evolution. Feed Thwackey 100 Grookey candy to evolve it.
Scorbunny, Raboot, and Cinderace
Scorbunny is Galar’s resident fire-type starter. Thankfully, fire types don’t necessarily appear in extremely hot locations. Players should be able to run into Scorbunny in residential areas, though it wouldn’t hurt to explore areas with drier climates if possible. The alternatives are to hatch Scorbunny from a 5km egg, complete Field Research tasks, or pick Scorbunny as part of the Max Out Special Research. As with the other Galar starter Pokemon, Scorbunny will also appear more frequently during the GO All Out event.
As the hooligan evolution of Scorbunny, Raboot can be obtained by feeding a Scorbunny 25 Scorbunny candy. Aside from catching other Scorbunny, the candy can be acquired from Adventure with Scorbunny tasks.
The soccer-loving Cinderace, who kicks fireballs instead of footballs, evolves from Raboot by feeding it 100 Scorbunny candy.
Sobble, Drizzile, and Inteleon
The third and final Galar starter, Sobble, is a water type. In case it wasn’t obvious, check near bodies of water, like rivers, lakes, or even the sea, for a chance to catch it. Or hatch one from 5km eggs. The GO All Out event will include plenty of opportunity to get a Sobble and evolve through Field Research tasks to complete to earn guaranteed encounters. There’s also the Max Out Special Research, where players can partner with Sobble to get another guaranteed encounter.
Just like with the other starter evolutions, Drizzile is obtained by feeding 25 Sobble candy to Sobble. Either catch more Sobble or complete Field Research and Max Out Special Research tasks to earn enough candy.
The spy-like sharpshooter Inteleon, unsurprisingly, needs to evolved from Drizzile by feeding it 100 Sobble candy.
Stonjourner
Stonjourner is a peculiar one. At time of writing, it is exclusive to the United Kingdom, no doubt as a reference to Galar being based on the country and Stonjourner itself taking inspiration from Stonehenge. There has been no mention of when or if Stonjourner will become available anywhere else in the world.
Stonjourner was a version-exclusive Pokemon that was only available in Shield but its Sword-exclusive counterpart in Galar, Eiscue, isn’t coming to Pokemon GO yet. Players will have to wait on the blockhead penguin for now.
Dreepy, Drakloak, and Dragapult
A Dragon/Ghost type, Dreepy may start out fairly unimpressive, but it can become one of the strongest Pokemon in the series. It being part Dragon means it could show up in cities, but its Ghost typing means it may only show up at night. It’s also worth checking near cemeteries. It will appear more frequently throughout the GO All Out event, but it can also be hatched from 10km eggs.
Drakloak is Dreepy’s first evolution, so it requires 25 Dreepy candy to evolve. There are unfortunately no special tasks that can be completed to earn Dreepy candy. So, players will need to rely on catching multiple Dreepy.
Dragapult is one of the franchise’s psuedo-legendary Pokemon, which are especially powerful and thus a lot of work to obtain. In Pokemon GO, Dragapult requires feeding Drakloak 100 Dreepy candy, so be prepared to hunt for and catch a lot of Dreepy.
