Game director Todd Howard gave new information about the much-anticipated first DLC expansion for Starfield, Shattered Space, including some key release date information.
Bethesda’s “Skyrim in space” title faced a very eventful, and very rocky launch. Though the company flaunted its player count immediately after launch, the story past that was largely defined by gaffes from Bethesda and frustration from fans. This included the company declaring Starfield Game of the Year, the Skyrim Together modder calling the game trash, and more. However, Bethesda hasn’t given up on the game and the most clear proof of this is how it’s set to get a large-scale expansion.
Todd Howard spoke in detail in an interview on the Kinda Funny Gamescast about Bethesda-owned IPs. In it, he gave fans information about what they can expect to see in the near future. Alongside talking about the success of the Fallout live-action show, Howard also revealed when Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion will be released and revealed a major update for the game set to be announced soon.
Starfield Shattered Space release date
Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion is set to be released sometime in Fall 2024.
Previously, the only confirmation fans had was that the DLC would be released in 2024. This likely means that fans can expect the expansion to come out near the end of 2024, between September and December.
It’s still unknown what, exactly, the expansion will add to Starfield. The obvious things to expect would be more questlines and new planets for players to explore. However, Bethesda is the same company that released a horse armor DLC for The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, so anything could be on the table for Shattered Space.
When taking the name “Starfield: Shattered Space” at face value, the title could hint at black holes or lightspeed space travel, which is compared to shattering space in some media. An intergalactic space war is also possible, though fans will have to wait for Bethesda to make an official announcement.
Major Starfield update revealed by Todd Howard
Todd Howard revealed that Starfield is getting a major update with new display modes on consoles, city maps, shipbuilding improvements, and more.
During the interview, Howard stated, “we have a big update that’s coming really soon for Starfield.” These quality-of-life improvements won’t be the first for Starfield. These updates are separate from the release of Starfield: Shattered Space, and will arrive well before that Fall release date.
As for when the update will officially be announced, Howard stated that it “should be announced this week.” This likely means Bethesda will announce the upcoming update in the first week of May 2024. Howard also stated it will be up on Steam beta in the immediate future.
