Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being designed as an online-only, live-service game but the developers say it’s going to offer the ability to enjoy offline single-player. Eventually.
Originally announced in August 2020, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally about to be released after facing multiple delays. Many fans have criticized the game’s always-online requirement even for story mode, and it looks like Rocksteady is planning to tackle this criticism, to some degree.
On the official Discord server of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Rocksteady stated that a future update will remove the always-online requirement and allow actual single-player action. The company alluded to when this might occur, though it’s still not enough to satisfy some of the game’s preemptive critics.
Will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have offline single-player mode?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will require a constant internet connection at launch, but a future update will add an offline story mode to the game.
This news came alongside the new trailer of the game that was streamed at The Game Awards, which revealed even more story elements and showed more gameplay to fans.
“In addition to our latest trailer, we also have some news to share. We’re happy to confirm, we are planning to add an offline story mode that will give players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection,” Rocksteady said in a statement on its Discord server.
The always-online requirement and lack of offline single-player was one of the biggest criticisms fans had of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and it seems like Rocksteady noticed that. While the studio is yet to announce an exact date for when this update will roll out, it says that the addition will be sometime in 2024. While this is good news for some players, the game will seemingly still require an internet connection from players at launch.
What does Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s new trailer show?
In addition to showing some more gameplay on all four launch characters, the trailer shown at The Game Awards also gives more tidbits about the game’s story.
The biggest reveal of the new trailer was that Knightmare Batman from Rocksteady’s previous title Arkham Knight will be making an appearance in the upcoming Suicide Squad game. Since it had already been confirmed that this game takes place in the same universe as the Arkham games, fans are expecting to see more references and easter eggs to Rocksteady’s previous games. It is also speculated that the leaked DLC characters will likely be the same or similar to their Arkham counterparts.
