Following the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring, it’s worth revisiting the family tree of demigods and discussing some of the new additions.
The demigods of Elden Ring rule The Lands Between, though a lot of their pasts are shrouded in mystery. Players only learn more about them and their history as they explore the world, with most of them serving as the most dangerous boss fights in the game. Keeping track of the elaborate network of characters who are closely tied to each other despite never appearing together on-screen is difficult, though.
That makes it worth going back over the Elden Ring family tree following the DLC’s release. Be warned that the rest of this article will contain some spoilers for both the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree.
The Elden Ring demigod family tree after Shadow of the Erdtree
All of the demigods in Elden Ring ultimately come from Queen Marika the Eternal or her alter ego, Radagon of the Golden Order. She went on to marry a warrior named Godfrey and had three children with him; Mohg the Lord of Blood, Morgott the Omen King, and Godwyn the Golden.
Godfrey would eventually be dumped by Marika alongside the Tarnished. His lineage continued and seemingly retained demigod status to some degree, despite no longer being joined to Marika. Godfrey had two descendants in Godrick the Grafted and Godefroy, with Godrick’s demigod status being dismissed by multiple characters.
Marika found a second consort in Radagon of the Golden Order, and together they had several children, including Miquella, and Malenia. It’s heavily implied that Melina and Messmer the Impaler are also both children of Marika and Radagon but it’s not explicitly stated, though Melina and Messmer are suggested to be brother and sister.
Complicating matters further is the fact that Marika is Radagon, though it’s unclear how she would’ve been able to birth multiple children if this was the case.
Radagon was previously married to the sorceress Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. Their three children, Starscourge Radahn, Rykard the Lord of Blasphemy, and Ranni the Witch, became demigods following Radagon’s union with Marika and thus half-siblings to the children Marika had with Radagon and step-siblings to Godfrey’s children.
Who are the new demigods in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree?
The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC introduced two new characters to add to the family tree; Rellana and Messmer.
Twin Moon Knight Rellana, although she’s not a demigod, is the younger sister of Rennala and thus aunt to Ranni, Radahn, and Rykard. She fights in service of the second new addition to the family tree, Messmer the Impaler, the fourth and final child of Marika and Radagon.
This makes Messmer the brother of Melina, Miquella, and Malenia, and also Rellana’s nephew since he’s the son of Rellana’s brother-in-law. Awkwardly, it’s implied there may have been a romantic tie between Rellana and Messmer, though that’s not all that bad in the grand scheme of the DLC.
With all the similar-sounding names and second marriages, it can be confusing to keep track of all this.
