Warner Bros just published its financials, and the future of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League DLC beyond Season 1 has suddenly become uncertain.
Months after its release, it appears that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a disappointment for both gamers and its developers. Well before its release, the game drew criticism for its live-service roadmap. Many gamers felt the focus on monetization over story was antithetical to the Arkham series that the game technically spawned from.
Upon Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s release, those criticisms were validated by critics. The story was dubbed underwhelming while the aggressive microtransactions completely turned many off from the live-service aspect. Even the release of the Joker DLC did not help Suicide Squad’s reputation. Many believed the game to be a flop upon seeing it discounted just weeks after launch. Warner Bros recently confirmed Suicide Squad to be a flop in its latest quarterly earnings report.
Kill the Justice League reportedly lost $200 million in Warner Bros revenue
WB Entertainment’s latest quarterly earnings report revealed Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League generated significantly lower revenue than expected.
WB has been in a tight spot for years. The role of David Zaslav as a hatchetman for perceived underperforming properties hasn’t won the CEO any fans in gaming or elsewhere.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that Zaslav allegedly described Suicide Squad as a “disappointing release” in a morning earnings call on May 2024. Given how many delays Suicide Squad faced during development and its mixed reception upon launch, a reduced DLC schedule seems inevitable.
Even so, it looks like Rocksteady will continue to release Year 1 DLC. But the question remains: How long will the DLC period last after its widespread reception?
Will Suicide Squad have Season 2 DLC?
Rocksteady and Warner Bros have not confirmed Season 2 DLC for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Two months after the game’s release, its price was slashed on some digital storefronts by as much as 50%. Additionally, reception for the Joker DLC was mostly negative, with many criticizing the DLC’s barebones content.
Miller Ross, a notable influencer who reported details on Crystal Dynamics, claims the current roadmap includes the likes of Deathstroke, Two-Face, and a gender-bent Mr. Freeze. Whether these DLC characters will be in Year 1 or not remains to be seen.
