Leakers are claiming that a Ghost of Tsushima 2 reveal is coming, but is it really happening?
In an era dominated by established titles like The Last of Us and God of War, Ghost of Tsushima stood tall as one of Sony’s brand-new IPs. Impressively, the critical and commercial acclaim for the open-world samurai title prompted Sony to greenlight a film adaptation. However, fans are still waiting for any news on a sequel.
Sucker Punch Studios has been tight-lipped about the game’s development. All that fans have to go off when it comes to official sources were job listings in 2020. These listings called for narrative writers with a “desire to write stories set in feudal Japan.” Other than that, it’s been radio silence. That left fans looking for other sources for Ghost of Tsushima 2 news.
Leakers claim Sucker Punch Studios will announce Ghost of Tsushima 2 “soon”
Multiple leakers claim that Ghost of Tsushima 2 news is on the horizon.
In March 2024, a now-deleted Twitter account named “Haothors” claimed a Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement was coming later in the year. Specifically, they noted the announcement would be during a PlayStation showcase in either May or June 2024. Haothors also broke the news of a Ghost of Tsushima PC port before its official announcement. Other leakers have since reaffirmed the claims for Ghost of Tsushima 2.
While Sucker Punch Productions still hasn’t shown its hand as far as a sequel, it likely has something planned for 2024. This year marks the 4th anniversary of Ghost of Tsushima, and the imminent release of a PC port is likely Sony reminding people of the franchise’s existence. After all, a high-quality PC port could convince non-PlayStation players to pick up a PS5 solely for Ghost of Tsushima 2.
Sony president and PlayStation chairman Hiroki Totoki previously affirmed the company’s “aggressive” PC release strategy in a financial report. The success of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC suggests this could prove successful. Spider-Man Remastered has sold over 1.5 million copies since its August 2022 release, resulting in more fans for the Sony franchise. The PC port notably launched a few months after Spider-Man 2’s gameplay reveal.
Regardless of Sony’s plans, fans hope a Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement comes sooner rather than later.
