According to a recent interview, Sega’s Persona and Like a Dragon franchises might be making their way to Roblox and that could mean interesting things for fans.
Sega’s Chief Operating Officer Shuji Utsumi was in an interview with CNBC, where he revealed new information on the direction of some Sega-owned game series. In addition to stating that two new Persona games would be coming out in 2024, just as recent leaks suggested, he also talked about how the company was thinking of ways to get its IPs in front of more gamers.
Two IPs he specifically brought up in the interview were the Like a Dragon and Persona franchises, highlighting them as franchises that could potentially be adapted into different mediums. Interestingly, he name-dropped Roblox as a way for Sega to grow these IPs.
Will Persona and Yakuza be coming to Roblox?
Sega is planning on bringing its more lucrative IPs to several more mediums, including movies, mobile games, and Roblox.
The Japanese multinational company is looking to capitalize on the success of the two Sonic the Hedgehog movies by expanding the consumer base for its other game franchises. To make its IPs more accessible, Sega’s COO Shuji Utsumi stated that the company is looking to experiment with other game adaptations.
“As I say, we are trying to be in a lot of different categories, different areas like Roblox, movies…All these IPs can be somewhere else other than games soon.” Utsumi stated in reference to the Yakuza and Persona franchises.
With Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload both having a 2024 release date, both of the mentioned franchises are currently fresh in the minds of fans. A crossover with the online game platform Roblox might make sense, though it’s unknown what those crossovers might look like and which games might be covered, as both Persona and Like a Dragon have seen turnover in the main character spot.
Sega’s Sonic franchise has already had a crossover with Roblox in the past in the form of Sonic Speed Simulator. It might be this crossover’s success that prompted Sega to want to collaborate further with the online gaming platform.
Are more Roblox crossovers coming?
Roblox has recently collaborated with the free-to-play fighting game Brawlhalla, and more crossovers might be coming soon.
Roblox, the online gaming platform and game creation system released in 2006, has had several notable gaming-related crossovers in the past. These crossovers include Sonic, Uno, FIFA, Angry Birds, and more.
Though film adaptations of video games are all the rage right now, with The Legend of Zelda set to receive this treatment and Dark Souls sister title Bloodborne reportedly set to hit the silver screen, adapting games into other games can be plenty of fun as well. Regardless of whether Persona and Like a Dragon jump to Roblox, expect the game to attract loads of interest from other brands.
