Bethesda Softworks, the publisher behind Starfield, has an update on upcoming features like official Creations modding support and a DLC expansion.
2023 is coming to a close and Bethesda wanted to once again tell fans how much they actually like Starfield. The company rattled off stats about how many people have played the game and for how long they’ve been at it, stating that the game has had 13 million players averaging 40 hours of playtime. This was followed by details regarding the future of the game, and Bethesda’s plans for content updates.
The developer spelled out its plans and gave an estimated timeline for what’s coming. Fans also have an idea of when they can start expecting these content updates.
Creations official mod store coming to Starfield with new difficulty settings, maps, and shipbuilding
Starfield will be receiving the Creations mod store, which gives players access to mods directly through the game.
It’s long been known that Starfield would be receiving official modding support, with terms in the EULA suggesting that something like the Skyrim and Fallout 4 Creation Club mod system would come to the game. That proved to be true with the impending addition of Creations. Creations is currently available in Skyrim, offering players the ability to add mods directly through the game with no adverse interactions between them.
The drawback to Creations is that these mods would previously have been free to Starfield players, but are instead akin to the infamous “horse armor” DLC of Oblivion. This system can greatly benefit modders, who can reap rewards from their work.
There is no official release date for the implementation of Creations in Starfield. The developer is planning to roll out updates every six weeks, starting in February. Players can expect new features and quality-of-life improvements after the new update system is in effect every month and a half.
Alongside Creations, Bethesda plans to introduce additional methods of travel within Starfield. Notably, the ship-building department will be enhanced with new customization tools including ship decorations, expanded building options, and more.
In addition to these enhancements, the upcoming update will incorporate diverse difficulty settings into the gameplay options. This enables players to tailor the difficulty around their gaming preferences, particularly as it relates to inventory management, ship combat, and survival elements.
Players who want an early taste of Starfield’s updates can sign up for the Steam Beta branch.
Starfield: Shattered Space DLC expansion confirmed by Bethesda
Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield will get DLC, and hinted that there will be multiple expansions to the game.
A new storyline is set to unfold in the game through the upcoming expansion pack titled “Shattered Space.” The Shattered Space expansion will arrive in Starfield in 2024, but there wasn’t a more specific release window than that. It’s also uncertain whether the DLC will be paid or free. Regardless, the implementation of Creations and the addition of DLC expansions will add a lot more potential for Starfield players.
Shattered Space seemingly won’t be the only expansion for the game though, as Bethesda described it as the “first major expansion” for the game. Bethesda effectively confirmed that Starfield will get multiple DLCs with this statement. More details can be found on Bethesda’s official website.
