Fortnite reportedly getting Heroes vs Villains mode; here’s what it is

Fortnite Avengers crossover

It’s been claimed that the current season of Fortnite will be getting a new LTM titled Heroes vs Villains, which might bring together some of Marvel’s most iconic characters in a new way.

With Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 themed around Marvel Comics, a brand Epic Games is becoming increasingly intertwined with, a mode based on the idea of heroes fighting villains makes sense. The announcement trailer even featured a cinematic of various heroes banding together to take on Doctor Doom and his army of villains.

While Epic Games has not announced any such mode, Season 4 is expected to run until November 2. So, there’s still plenty of time for the developer to reveal new content and highly sought-after game modes.

What’s in Fortnite’s likely Heroes vs Villains LTM?

Fortnite’s Heroes vs Villains mode is reportedly set to be similar to the Endgame mode; a deathmatch scenario with conditions for disabling enemy respawns.

Word of this Heroes vs Villains mode comes courtesy of Twitter user Loolo, a frequent source of Fortnite leaks. They’ve also credited two other Fortnite leakers for their claims.

For starters, Heroes vs Villains has been described as a team-based mode similar to the Endgame mode featured in 2019. Appropriately, this mode was also Marvel-themed, with one team as the Avengers and the other as the Chitauri.

In that mode, the Avengers had to eliminate enough Chitauri to disable their respawns, before wiping them out alongside Thanos. The Chitauri, meanwhile, had to gather all the Infinity Stones to disable the Avengers respawns. It’s unclear if this is how Heroes vs Villains will work, though it likely won’t feature Thanos or the Chitauri. The current season is focused on a different iconic Marvel Comics villain; Doctor Doom.

One difference is that both teams will only have a limited amount of respawns rather than an infinite supply that needs to be disabled. Whichever team runs out of respawns first loses. What’s more, players will be allowed to swap teams and merge squads. Even if a player is killed, they can be revived by their teammates. Perhaps the most exciting detail is that all the Marvel Mythic items from Chapter 1 Season 8 and Chapter 2 Season 4 will be brought back. Hopefully, this includes the Infinity Gauntlet, which was only ever featured in the Endgame mode.

There’s been no mention of when Heroes vs Villains could be added to Fortnite. A new update is coming on September 4, so it may be added then. If not, it will ideally come out before the end of September. In the meantime, players can look forward to a new game mode that doubles as a crossover with the Gundam franchise. However, it’s not scheduled to arrive until October 17.
