Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga release date is sooner than you thought

Ninja Theory officially announced the release date for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and showed what fans have to look forward to from the Xbox exclusive.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 was announced shortly after the release of 2017’s hack-and-slash adventure Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and fans have been looking forward to it since. It seems they won’t have to wait much longer, as the game’s official release date was revealed to be sooner than some expected. The release date announcement for Hellblade 2 was during Microsoft’s 2024 Xbox Developer Direct on January 18, 2024.

The title has been positioned as a killer app for the Xbox Series X/S consoles and has been heavily promoted in Microsoft’s promotional events. The company will be looking to deliver on its own hype after many contended that Starfield fell short of filling this niche.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 release date revealed

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be released on May 21, 2024, for the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Similar to other Xbox first-party titles, it’ll be available to play from day one on Xbox Game Pass.

The release date was leaked a few days before the official announcement by eXtas1stv, who also correctly gave fans information on when Baldur’s Gate 3 was coming to Xbox before Larian Studios announced anything.

Just as the leaker reported, a large section of the 2024 Xbox Developer Direct was dedicated to Hellblade 2. Fans got a more in-depth look at the revamped combat system and learned more about the story of the upcoming Viking epic.

Hellblade 2 still not coming out on PlayStation 5

Hellblade 2 remains on course to be an Xbox Series X/S exclusive, and seemingly will not release on other consoles. This comes despite the original Hellblade game originally launching on PlayStation 4 and later arriving on Nintendo Switch.

The Microsoft event understandably didn’t touch on anything about a PlayStation 5 release, but it’s now effectively confirmed that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will not be coming to the PS5 at launch. It’s uncertain if the game will ever get a PS5 version, as Hellblade 2 is a first-party Xbox title thanks to Microsoft’s acquisition of Ninja Theory in 2018.

While this might sound obvious, there has been a significant amount of chatter and reporting about Xbox-exclusive titles being ported to other consoles. This had some wondering whether Microsoft might throw a curveball and offer release dates or allude to exclusivity windows regarding some of its major releases.

Although PlayStation gamers won’t be able to play Hellblade 2 on May 21, first-party Xbox titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves are rumored to be coming to competing platforms. However, this doesn’t mean fans should get their hopes up until Xbox exclusives come to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
