Here are the 10 best PC mods for Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth Wukong Goku mod

Black Myth: Wukong is a massive hit and has unsurprisingly attracted plenty of mod support on PC, but which mods are the best ones?

The action RPG debut from Chinese studio Game Science has, at the time of writing, only been out for a week, and is already one of the biggest games of the year. It’s no wonder Xbox owners are jealous about Black Myth: Wukong being an unintentional PlayStation 5 and PC exclusive. However, PC owners have the added advantage of being able to mod the game to their liking.

From alternate playable characters to gameplay tweaks, here’s a rundown of some of the best PC mods currently available for Black Myth: Wukong.

The best PC mods for Black Myth: Wukong

The best mods for Black Myth: Wukong range from character reskins to UI and graphical improvements. As with games like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3, players can inject some silly fun into their playthrough or make some serious changes to the graphics and presentation of the game.

There isn’t really a singular best option, but these stand among the top options in their respective categories.

Add a map with Simple Map mod

For whatever reason, Black Myth: Wukong lacks a map function, which can make traversing its various areas harder than it needs to be. Thanks to the simply titled Simple Map mod from Wmm555, players can have an easier time figuring out where they are and where to go next.

Play as Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa

Black Myth Wukong Tifa mod

Several mods swap out player character Sun Wukong for somebody else. One of the best and most popular ones is the Play as Tifa mod by Yui, starring Final Fantasy 7’s premiere pugilist. Admittedly, Tifa doesn’t get to punch anyone in this mod since the only weapons available are staves. But it’s still cool to see her take on the game’s mighty boss fights.

Improve photo mode with Unlimited Photo Mode

Black Myth: Wukong boasts a robust photo mode, but it’s not without limitations. Namely, would-be photographers can only move the camera so far, meaning they can’t position too far away from Wukong himself. The Unlimited Photo Mode mod by AlexPo21 removes that restriction, bumping the max distance from 15 meters to 150,000 kilometers. This should provide far more freedom with the kind of shots players may want to take.

Cosplay Darth Maul with Double Bladed Lightsaber

Black Myth Wukong double sided lightsaber mod

Since Wukong specializes in staff weapons, it comes as no surprise that someone has modded in a lightsaber from Star Wars. Specifically, the one wielded by fan favorite villain Darth Maul, though there are different color options to choose besides red. The Double Bladed Lightsaber mod comes courtesy of NorskPL, who also made a character mod that swaps in Darth Maul himself.

Play as Dragon Ball Z’s Son Goku

Another mod by NorskPL, replacing Wukong with Dragon Ball’s Son Goku makes too much sense for it not to be made. For anyone who doesn’t know, the original Dragon Ball manga drew a lot of inspiration from the Chinese novel Journey to the West, which Black Myth: Wukong is also based on. Goku himself is directly based on Sun Wukong, having originally had a monkey tail, wielded a staff, and ridden on a floating cloud.

Have a more Dark Souls-like experience with Better Dodge

Black Myth: Wukong was being compared to FromSoftware’s Soulslike games even before it launched. So, it should come as no surprise that it can be very challenging at points. For anyone looking to have a slightly easier time with its combat challenges, there’s a Better Dodge mod by gpgf. As the title implies, it makes the dodge move more generous, granting full invincibility during the dodge, among other adjustments.

Unlock Somersault Cloud early with Somersault Cloud Anywhere

The Somersault Cloud is a fun spell that improves Wukong’s movement capabilities. Sadly, players don’t acquire it until near the end of the game. Without the ability to return to previous areas, it’s an ability that feels like it can’t be taken full advantage of.

With the Somersault Cloud Anywhere mod by zys5945, the spell can be triggered even during the early parts of the game, letting players use it in any area. For those who want to do multiple playthroughs of Black Myth: Wukong, this mod is one of the best options out there, as this spell makes for a transformative addition to the game.

Potentially improve stability, performance with BMWK – SPF

Aside from being challenging, Black Myth: Wukong can be a bit intense for some PCs, making it difficult to run. Anyone who struggles in this regard may want to try downloading the BMWK – SPF mod by xowny. It aims to provide faster load times, improve performance, and offer smoother gameplay.

Take to the skies with Flying Wukong

Black Myth Wukong flying mod

This one is just game-breaking. With the Flying Wukong mod by SKX, players can do exactly what it says on the tin and take to the skies wherever and whenever they want.

Fall damage will still exist though, so dropping from too great a height will kill Wukong. Fortunately, this mod can be combined with a completely separate one that breaks the game even further with a bunch of customization options. These include infinite health, one-hit kills, and immunity to all negative status effects.

Improve graphics with Enhanced Wukong Visuals

While already a pretty game, this Enhanced Wukong Visuals mod by FrancisLouis strives to make the visuals even better. According to the creator, it achieves this by disabling certain effects, like fog and bloom. It also comes with a preset that increases the draw distance, shadow resolution and level of detail for the environments. Just be warned that this can impact the game’s performance on less powerful PCs.
