Bloodborne fans believe a remaster is coming. Are these claims true, or is it just fans coping?
Gamers have speculated about a Bloodborne remaster for years. Despite its popularity, Bloodborne has still not launched for the PS5. The game came out in 2015 and has since sold over 7 million units. With From Software at the peak of its popularity in 2024, fans believe there’s no better time for a new Bloodborne project than now.
To this day, fans still clamor for any news on the gothic soulslike. Even high-profile creators such as Kai Cenat have streamed the game to major success. Despite the fan outcry, From Software and Sony have remained silent about Bloodborne news. Recent reports gave fans hope that a Bloodborne announcement may come soon.
Fans debate over potential Bloodborne remaster
In November 2024, players logging into Bloodborne were met with an announcement that the servers would be down for maintenance. The maintenance date is set for December 3, 2024. Though seemingly a typical maintenance message, a fan news account claimed that the server downtime is the same date hidden in a recent PlayStation trailer.
Although many cautiously got excited, others were a bit more jaded. Skeptical gamers countered that this could all be just “cope.” They noted that servers don’t have to go down for an announcement. They also wondered what the servers going down had to do with the potential remaster. The extent of these theories has showcased just how much fans demand anything related to Bloodborne.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has teased multiple upcoming projects after Elden Ring’s success but Bloodborne was not among them. Ultimately, it’s Sony’s call whether to greenlight anything Bloodborne-related. Sony has an upcoming movie based on the property, but not much else has been done with the IP.
Recently, Sony announced its intent to acquire From Software. The massive success of the studio’s projects makes it a tempting studio for Sony’s exclusive library. The two companies have a good relationship but have remained partners at best throughout the years. If the acquisition goes through, it could motivate Sony to use the Bloodborne IP after its long hiatus.
