Wuthering Waves may be free-to-play but PS5 players can purchase the Awakening pre-order bundle to get in-game items and materials; is it worth getting, though?
The gacha scene is dominated by huge names like Genshin Impact and Fate Grand/Order. However, KuroGames stands out as one of the only developers to make a direct and successful competitor to HoYoverse games like Genshin Impact. Placing a heavy focus on combat while featuring grandiose boss battles, Wuthering Waves made waves in the gacha world when it came out.
Many PC and mobile gamers have enjoyed the game since it came out on May 22, 2024. PlayStation 5 players will soon get the chance too, though the Awakening pre-order bundle in the PS Store raises some questions. Every question boils down to whether the bundle is worth it.
What’s in the Wuthering Waves Awakening pre-order bundle?
The Wuthering Waves Awakening pre-order bundle includes a variety of in-game resources, materials, and currency.
The full list of in-game items in the Awakening pre-order bundle is given below:
- 5 Lustrous Tides
- 10 Premium Resonance Potions
- 10 Premium Energy Cores
- 15 Advanced Revival Inhalers
- 10 Wuthercakes
- 500,000 Shell Credits
Additionally, players also get the added pre-order bonus which includes:
- 2 Premium Resonance Potion
- 2 Premium Energy Core
- 5 Star Flakes
The PS5 version of Wuthering Waves will let players link their existing accounts, transferring all their progress. Those far enough in the game will likely have easy access to most items in the pre-order bundle.
Wuthercakes and Star Flakes are food items that players can simply cook after unlocking their respective recipes. The cores, potions, and inhalers included in the bundle and pre-order bonus are rare, but possible to acquire through normal play. Players can get all three items through simulation training, exploring the overworld, and completing quests.
Finally, while Shell Credits are initially sought after, players eventually get an influx of them since they’re acquired through various activities. Infinity Nikki’s Bling and Genshin Impact’s Mora are Wuthering Waves’ equivalent to Shell Credits.
The only offering that stands out is the five Lustrous Tides. Five Lustrous Tides equates to five pulls in the standard banner, which isn’t all that much. However, $10 worth of Lunite, which players can eventually convert to Lustrous or Radiant Tides to pull in the standard or limited banners respectively, will get players seven pulls with some Lunite to spare.
Is the Wuthering Waves Awakening pre-order bundle worth it?
The Wuthering Waves Awakening pre-order bundle isn’t worth it for long-time or returning players. Although the bundle will give new players a slight advantage, there are better values.
The best value for Wuthering Waves players of all sorts is the Lunite Subscription. This gives players a daily bonus of Lunite, which can be converted into pulls. Gacha fans will likely be familiar with the Blessings of Welkin Moon from Genshin Impact and Express Supply Pass from Honkai: Star Rail. Wuthering Waves has a similar subscription called the Lunite Subscription.
When purchased, players immediately get 300 Lunite. Additionally, players can log in to the game daily to claim 90 Astrites for the next 30 days. Astrite is Wuthering Waves’ equivalent to Genshin’s Primogems and is the most premium currency in the game.
For context, players can get a maximum of 18 pulls from a Lunite Subscription with some Astrites to spare, assuming they log in each day during its duration. The best thing is that this subscription costs $5, half the price of the Awakening pre-order bundle. Buying the Lunite Subscription twice doesn’t mean players get 180 Astrites daily instead of 90, but they get 90 Astrites daily for 60 days.
This formula is the best value across every gacha game that uses it. While Wuthering Waves’ Awakening pre-order bundle does give new players a leg up, players who want to casually try out the game and don’t plan on committing are better off spending their money on other things.
