League of Legends Prestige skins will become much rarer in 2025

Known for high prices and short windows of availability, Prestige skins in League of Legends were already rare and difficult to obtain. They’re about to get even more exclusive in 2025, though.

Riot Games is introducing a slew of changes to the LoL ecosystem in the new year. These include the addition of seasons similar to how Fortnite runs, changes to ranked and Swiftplay, and more. One major change for skin enthusiasts is that Prestige skins will become even more exclusive.

As players prepare for 2025 changes, here’s how they can still get new and old Prestige skins alike.

How will League of Legends’ Prestige skins change in 2025?

The release and theming of new Prestige skins in League of Legends will correspond with the new season model.

In 2025, League of Legends will be following a new seasonal model, with three seasons in a year and two acts per season. Each focuses on a different region and set of champions in Runeterra. Season 1 will focus on Noxus, a main enemy in the world of the television show Arcane.

Every act will have its own seasonal pass now, with the paid pass granting the most valuable rewards. For 2,650 RP, the League seasonal paid pass grants access to the battle pass, the champion receiving the prestige skin, and the seasonal Prestige skin as the capstone reward. This means that players have the opportunity to get up to six new Prestige skins per year.

To increase their exclusivity, Riot will no longer be releasing non-Prestige versions of a skin. Developers state the decision should also produce higher-quality designs. Additionally, League will no longer have event-specific passes, tokens, or shops. The only way to get new Prestige skins, then, will be through purchasing the seasonal pass.

How to get old Prestige skins

Older Prestige skins still have the chance to appear in the mythic shop rotation, which updates every other patch.

A small number of Prestige skins have always appeared in the mythic shop and more cosmetics may be coming too. When revealing the Sanctum loot boxes, Riot added that it would be expanding the mythic shop to include even more offerings from past events. These include Legacy skins, event chromas, and emotes. Everything in the mythic shop, including Prestige skins, is purchasable with Mythic Essence.

Players willing to spend the RP and grind through the seasonal pass will have no trouble getting new Prestige skins in 2025. Others, however, may want to try their luck with essence and the mythic shop rotation.
