A new Starfield leak shows the space buggy vehicle in action, complete with low-gravity jumps and dreaded pop-in issues. These have combined to once again leave Starfield players frustrated with the state of the game.
Starfield is Microsoft’s big RPG for Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC. Despite being received well, the game is not doing great with long-term Bethesda fans. Many Steam players prefer to stick with older Bethesda titles like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls than play Starfield. Thankfully, the developers behind the epic space RPG are gearing up for the next big paid expansion and land vehicles.
After the honeymoon period, fans began complaining about the lack of hand-crafted locations across the game. Plenty also had grips with long stretches of nothingness between points of interest on a planet. The Starfield vehicle leak shows that the developers are aware of the downtime and are working to shorten it.
Starfield vehicle leak shows fast cars and pop-in
Leaked footage appears to show vehicle gameplay footage from Starfield’s upcoming content updates, with this footage lingering performance issues in the game.
An unofficial Twitter account called BethesdaArabic posted a short clip of a vehicle speeding around a desert planet in what seems like Starfield from the UI. The leak is said to come from 4Chan.
The footage shows a vehicle zooming around and jumping on the low-gravity planet before coming to a crash at the end. While fast, the speed was lower than fans hoped. The speed also highlights the already jarring pop-in issue, where textures and objects “pop in” view, taking the player out of the experience.
A combination of jumps and jetpack maneuvers accelerated players to high speeds in the base game. The movement combo worked on low-gravity planets but was less effective on high-gravity ones. The Starfield vehicles might run better on challenging planets.
Starfield game engine issues persist with upcoming DLC
Despite the fast vehicles, the core Starfield problems stem from engine issues and limitations restricting the map and space travel.
The heavily modified Creation Engine 2 still has long loading screens between planets, interior locations, and space travel. The biggest issue is the small randomly generated map. A player can explore only a certain area around their landed ship.
With a fast vehicle, players will hit the invisible wall faster. While the developers released an update that unlocked the frame rate on consoles, the map generation limit is still in place. It remains to be seen how Bethesda tackles one of the biggest immersion-breaking problems in Starfield.
