Baldur’s Gate 3 got a new patch, and it’s apparently breaking the game for some PlayStation 5 players.
The patch intended to solve visual issues and bugs affecting many PlayStation 5 players is instead halting their game progress. Players have taken to social media to voice their displeasure and frustration as a result.
The critically acclaimed RPG had issues with performance from the start, especially on PlayStation 5, but developer Larian Studios has been working steadily towards making it a more stable experience. The latest patch, however, makes the game borderline unplayable for some players.
Larian Studios has done a remarkable job of releasing a steady stream of patches for their latest RPG hit. Most of their patches and hotfixes tackle hundreds of bugs and performance issues. The developers have also found a way to make the game run smoothly on Xbox Series S consoles, but that hasn’t made this latest problem any easier for PS5 players to deal with.
What’s the game-breaking bug for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5?
The latest patch makes scripting in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 go haywire on PS5, with companions not following the player and players unable to execute basic commands or talk to NPCs.
There are jarring graphical issues as well, not just for texture but for whole buildings and NPCs, making the game borderline unplayable when combined with the functional issues. Some animations won’t load, making NPCs look wonky and out of place. The experience looks almost like an online game with lagging servers, except the performance issues persist when playing solo as well. PS5 players are reporting not having these issues before Baldur’s Gate 3 patch #4.
Some players do not have any problems, but most report starting Act 3 before the patch was deployed. New players are running into scripting and animation issues when starting this act.
How to fix Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 bug on PS5
The only solution for the new Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 bug on PS5 is to idle in the game and wait for it to “catch up.” But this solution is not guaranteed to work for all players, and it must be repeated in some new areas.
There has yet to be any official word from Larian Studios about this issue. It will eventually be fixed, but PlayStation 5 players are left to the mercy of janky animations and teleporting NPCs until then. Reloading prior saves also doesn’t solve the issue. Patient players who let the game fully load must wait even longer when they enter a new area.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a turn-based game with players waiting for the enemies to finish their own actions in combat, and this latest bug also makes players wait for the PlayStation 5 to finish its own moves.
The bug only affects new save files or saves that were placed prior to Act 3 before the patch was launched. It isn’t affecting all players either, so players can take their chances or simply wait until Larian deploys a hotfix.
