Persona 6: Everything known about the game so far

Persona series all protagonists

Persona 6 may wind up having the biggest JRPG in the history of gaming, but what do we actually know about the game and the future of the franchise?

While fans have harrumphed about Atlus’ continued development of Persona 5 spin-offs, leaked sales information shows why the Phantom Thieves keep returning. Despite that frustration, Atlus has still been doing plenty of other work. Persona fans can look forward to projects like Persona 4 Revival, while new IPs like Unicorn Overlord and Metaphor: ReFantazio have been major critical successes.

But while games like Persona 5: The Phantom X and Persona 3 Reload offer new ways to engage with the series, fans looking for a brand-new Persona experience have been left wanting. Is that going to change any time soon, though? Here’s everything that has been confirmed and reported regarding Persona 6.

Is Persona 6 confirmed?

Atlus has repeatedly discussed and confirmed plans of creating a sixth mainline Persona game, but has not officially revealed it or offered any details.

The success of the Persona series, with Persona 5 Royal being the best-selling game under the Sega umbrella over recent years, effectively guaranteed that a new game would come out at some point. However, Atlus has made these plans explicit on a few occasions.

In 2021, Atlus director Naoto Hiraoka stated on Atlus’ job board that the company plans to create Persona 6.

“Thanks to a large amount of support we received for Persona 5, we have gotten a sense of accomplishment, but we can’t stop there. When we created Persona 4, there was the pressure that it had to exceed Persona 3. Now, we will have to create a 6 which exceeds 5,” Hiraoka said.

Atlus alluded to this intent to create a Persona 6 in its announcement of Persona 4 Revival.

“We are actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series as a studio. We are working hard to meet the expectations of fans around the world and our work is progressing well. Please stay tuned for more updates,” Atlus said in a statement.

Though Atlus has repeatedly stated its intent to create Persona 6, no information regarding its release date, platforms, or story has been given by the company.

What have leaks said about Persona 6?

There have been many leaks over the years regarding Persona 6’s release date, story content, and more.

Reports regarding Persona 6 started surfacing in 2023 from various notable leakers of the time.

Various claims were made regarding gameplay and story changes. While leakers claim the game will keep the series’ signature high school setting, it’s said to feature two protagonists. The color scheme of the game will reportedly be green but with a “black and white” theme alongside it, exploring duality.

From a gameplay perspective, Persona 6 is said to be grander in scope than Persona 5. This will reportedly include semi-open-world areas and more dynamic progression in the story and with social links.

These details won’t be confirmed until after the game is officially revealed. However, leaks regarding the game’s release date have not panned out.

In late 2023, Midori stated that Atlus’ internal plans were to release Persona 6 “within three years.” This was later narrowed to 2025 with claims that the game would be revealed in late 2024. This has not yet come to pass. Leaker ImAHeroToo also made reports regarding the game’s release date, though these were scant on information beyond the game coming out at some point after 2024.

With the international version of Persona 5: The Phantom X and Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army both shipped, Atlus’ only confirmed project is Persona 4 Revival. That could be good news for fans eagerly awaiting Persona 6’s release.
