Sparking Zero – Arrival on Planet Namek canon & alternate routes

Burter in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Arrival on Planet Namek is the only mission where finding the canon route is harder than clearing the alternate one.

Dragon Ball games may be fun but usually have one core problem. Every game follows the same path set by the anime and manga, with little or no wiggle room offered to players. Thanks to this, some players feel like completing one game in the series means they’ve cleared them all. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero tackles this problem by giving players various choices that change the story’s direction.

While one choice is always the canon route the characters take in the anime and manga, the other is an original “what if” route. While finding both routes for most missions is typically straightforward, the Arrival on Planet Namek is the only mission where finding the canon route is tougher than finding the alternate one.

How to clear the alternate route on Arrival on Planet Namek

Players can clear the alternate in Arrival on Planet Namek by defeating Jeice without deflecting his Crusher Balls attack.

Clearing the alternate route in Arrival on Planet Namek is extremely easy and most players will likely do so unintentionally. Just follow the story until Goku fights Jeice, at which point the player should make quick work of the Ginyu Force member.

However, the one requirement is that players shouldn’t reflect Jeice’s Crusher Balls attack. Doing so will make Burter sub in, making it impossible to defeat Jeice and clear the alternate route. Clearing the alternate route in Arrival on Planet Namek gives players 15,000 Zeni and EXP.

How to clear the canon route in Arrival on Planet Namek

Players can clear the canon route in Arrival on Planet Namek by defeating Burter and allowing Jeice to flee.

Those who watched the Dragon Ball Z anime or read the manga will likely remember that Recoome and Burter were the first to fall by Goku when he arrived on Planet Namek. However, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero throws a curve ball by pitting Goku against Jeice. What’s more, the game instructs the player to “not reflect Jeice’s Crusher Balls attack.” Following the instructions will lead to the player defeating Jeice and clearing the alternate route.

To clear the canon route for Arrival on Planet Namek the player must actually reflect Jeice’s Crusher Balls attack to force Burter to sub in. The instruction to not reflect it is possibly a mistranslation on Bandai Namco’s part and might get fixed in an update. Simply defeat Burter when he subs in to complete the canon route. An alternate way to clear the route is to set the game difficulty to low as players get locked out of alternate routes this way.
