Rockstar Games quietly revealed the GTA 6 platform list and PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One owners might have to just watch the game on Twitch.
The trailer for GTA 6 came out earlier than expected in response to a leaker on Twitter posting the video. With the cat out of the bag, Rockstar decided it was for the best to just release the trailer itself rather than trying to keep reposts bottled. The trailer revealed GTA 6’s new lead duo, as well as its setting.
Although no real gameplay was revealed, GTA 6 showcased realistic animations and lively environments, taking full advantage of the capabilities of the next generation of consoles. Unfortunately, this seemingly means that few other platforms are actually going to get GTA 6.
Will GTA 6 be coming out on PS4 and Xbox One?
Rockstar Games announced that GTA 6 will be coming out in 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This likely means that GTA 6 will not be coming out on PS4 or Xbox One.
“Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X/S games and entertainment systems in 2025,” the company said in a statement.
The official announcement from Rockstar only mentioned a release on the latest generation of consoles. GTA 6, as far as official information goes, will only be on the PS5 and Xbox One Series X/S. The probable confirmation that GTA 6 isn’t coming to PC, PS4, or Xbox One is both surprising and unsurprising.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was exclusively being created for the PS4 and Xbox One at the time of its release, with no ports for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Given the technological leaps that Red Dead Redemption 2 had over GTA V, the decision to be exclusive to the newer generation of consoles was possibly necessary.
On the other hand, GTA 5 has been wildly successful thanks in part to its availability on almost every major gaming platform of the last 15 years. The game originally launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and was ported to PC and multiple successive consoles. Seeing GTA 6 left off the PS4 and Xbox One is a bit surprising, if only because the platforms continue to get major releases to this day. Though GTA 6 was reportedly coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s now unclear whether that’s possible.
That said, there’s another major exclusion from the platform announcement.
Will GTA 6 be coming out on PC?
There is no official confirmation that GTA 6 will be launched on PC. In a move that is familiar yet annoying for Rockstar fans, GTA 6 will seemingly be skipping PC on launch day. That means only console players will be able to enjoy the game’s debauchery.
GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all skipped PC on launch day. GTA 4’s PC port came only a few months later, while GTA 5 took two whole years. Red Dead Redemption 2 was middle of the road, taking only a year of development before a PC release.
A side effect of pushing the technical envelope is longer development times, and ports are notorious for having issues when rushed out. Previous PC ports in the series have also been rife with bugs, something the company may be looking to avoid. While it’s very likely that GTA 6 will be coming to PC, it’s anybody’s guess how long that will take.
