Kingdom Hearts 4 is coming but it’s not coming soon, according to a report on its release date.
Kingdom Hearts is historically willing to take its time in releasing a new game. Fans of the series know this well, given the excruciating 14-year wait for Kingdom Hearts 3. Previous reports that Kingdom Hearts 4 was slated for release in 2025 led to fans being hopeful of a reveal at the PlayStation State of Play of Summer Game Fest, but the game didn’t appear in either of these events.
A new report may offer the reason why. A prominent leaker suggests that, despite claims to the contrary, the game is not currently set to come out in 2025 and fans will have to wait quite a while longer.
Kingdom Hearts 4 release date info
Kingdom Hearts 4 is reportedly set to come out in 2026.
This comes from Midori, @MbKKssTBhz5 on Twitter, a leaker known for reporting info on Atlus RPGs ahead of official reveals. In recent weeks they have branched out further, focusing on Square Enix with reports on Dragon Quest’s HD remakes and a new version of Final Fantasy 9. Their release date report on Kingdom Hearts 4 comes after DanielRPK, a TV and movie industry leaker who focuses on Disney-owned IPs, stated the game was coming out in 2025.
Alongside the release date info, Midori claimed the game looks different now than when it was first revealed. Kingdom Hearts 4’s reveal trailer came out in 2022 and nothing has been shown since. The development footage included a radical graphical overhaul, with Sora meeting a new character in a realistic world.
Kingdom Hearts 4 will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed this after the release of the reveal trailer.
Kingdom Hearts 4 platforms
Kingdom Hearts 4 will likely come out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo’s next-gen console. It’s unclear whether it could land on past-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square Enix has not confirmed any details on Kingdom Hearts 4’s release date or platforms.
Midori previously indicated that KH4 and the rest of the series were set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. Though recent Final Fantasy games have been PlayStation-exclusive, that hasn’t ever been the case with Kingdom Hearts. Square Enix also recently announced plans to make all its AAA releases multi-platform.
Fans hoping for Kingdom Hearts 4 to appear on the Xbox Games Showcase may want to taper their expectations. The game could appear on Gamescom or at the Tokyo Game Show later this year, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
If Kingdom Hearts 4 releases in 2025, there will be a seven-year gap between the third and fourth games in the series. The series is set to debut on Steam on June 13, so fans have something to look forward to.
