These Final Fantasy 7 skins, weapons are coming to Apex Legends

apex legends final fantasy 7

The details for the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth crossover have now been fully revealed, and there’s much to take in.

Apex Legends and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth may seem like an unlikely mashup, but that didn’t stop the two from collaborating. Unlike its contemporaries such as Fortnite, Apex Legends wasn’t always big on crossovers. This Takeover event marks the very first time Apex Legends has collaborated with an entirely different IP.

Apex Legends has famously skirted the line, particularly with its Gaiden event back in 2022. The Gaiden event featured cosmetics with strangely specific design motifs that referenced such anime as My Hero Academia, One Piece, Evangelion, and Naruto. This time, Apex Legends doesn’t need to dodge Square Enix’s copyright lawyers.

Is there a new weapon in the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth crossover?

The new Buster Sword R2R5 weapon will be available as part of the Battle Royale “Takeover” event between Apex Legends and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. The Buster Sword R2R5 acts similarly to its Final Fantasy counterpart, with access to light and heavy attacks, dashes, and even the iconic Limit Break meter. Dealing, taking, and blocking damage helps fill up the meter faster.

This new weapon can be found in Care Packages strewn across the map for players not lucky enough to get it on the first drop. There’s also a Universal Mythic Melee Cosmetic of the sword available without any of its unique gameplay features. Besides the Buster Sword, there are also Materia Hop-Ups scattered across the map that provide various bonuses to players.

Are there Final Fantasy 7 skins for Apex Legends?

Legendary skins referencing Final Fantasy 7 characters Cloud, Aerith, Yuffie, Tifa, and Barret are to be available in the Apex Legends store. In addition to the legendary skins, there are over 36 items inspired by Final Fantasy 7 to collect, alongside dozens of stickers. Players who get a Four-Pack are guaranteed at least one Legendary or Iconic item.

There’s also no need to worry about duplicates of items specific to the event. The Buster Sword R5 is the cosmetic-only version of the Takeover event sword and will be unavailable in the Mythic Shop after the event ends. Make sure to pick that up if you want to lug around the Buster Sword long after the Takeover event has concluded.

There are also unique Twitch Drop stickers awarded to players who watch their favorite streamer on specific days. More details can be found on the game’s official site.
