Will Black Ops 6 let you use classic movement? Activision responds

call of duty black ops 6 omnimovement slide

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will introduce omnimovement to the series, but will players have the option to disable this new mechanic and use a more classic movement system?

The next installment in the Call of Duty series will prioritize fast, free movement to an extreme degree. This new controversial movement system dubbed “omnimovement” will essentially allow players to run, slide, and dive in any direction, which is a first for the Call of Duty series. These new movement options stand to fundamentally change how people will play Black Ops 6 and open up new strategies.

Such a big change might prove jarring for veteran players, so some will want to know if there will be any such options that allow them to play with omnimovement turned off. Activision gave an answer, and it’s not going to be a popular one.

Can omnimovement be disabled in Black Ops 6?

Activision has confirmed that omnimovement can’t be disabled in Black Ops 6.

In the first episode of the official Call of Duty podcast, Activision’s senior director of studio communications Stephanie Snowden explained this is because omnimovement is “a core foundational mechanic of the game.” Developer Treyarch’s associate director Matt Scronce added that this is the case across all of Black Ops 6’s game modes, including online multiplayer and zombies.

However, there will be some degree of movement customization thanks to another new feature called “intelligent movement,” which is described as a “suite of player settings” that are disabled by default but can be toggled on. Examples include being able to sprint or mantle automatically without having to press a button.

Scronce said these settings have been designed to “reduce button presses” and there will even be options to add a delay to a player’s movement. An example Scronce gave is a player wanting to push forward to get behind cover, but not wanting the auto-mantle to kick in and have them go over the cover. With intelligent movement, they can add a brief delay to prevent mantling.

Call of Duty fans will be able to get a feel for omnimovement this September when the Black Ops 6 beta releases, followed by the full game’s launch on October 25. Should omnimovement and Intelligent Movement prove popular with the player base, perhaps Activision will push to take these incorporated in other future Call of Duty games.
