Arcane Season 2 has wowed fans and many are already talking their hopes regarding an Arcane Season 3, but is that possible?
As of 2018, video games had terrible luck with film and TV adaptations. From Prince of Persia to Bloodrayne multiple beloved video game series had catastrophic flops in Hollywood. The consistent failures made adapting a game to a different medium taboo. The likes of League of Legends and Cyberpunk: 2077 somehow flipped the script with their respective animated series.
Arcane is an animated Netflix series based on the popular free-to-play MOBA League of Legends. The show became a commercial success for its acclaimed story, visuals, and characters, even winning an Emmy award in the process. The show’s second season continues where the first ended and fans wonder if it will return with a third season.
Will there be an Arcane Season 3?
The team behind Arcane confirmed that the show will not get a third season.
The official Arcane X account revealed the second season’s release month in June with a video. The video’s caption stated the show was returning for its “final season,” proving the creators didn’t intend to continue Arcane after Season 2
Arcane may be a commercial success, but the series’ co-creator Christian Linke stated in a video that the team always had a specific ending in mind. That ending is what wraps up the second season, and it would be “irresponsible” to stretch out the show just for the sake of it.
Will there be more League of Legends shows after Arcane?
There will be other League of Legends-based series and films after Arcane concludes, starring other champions.
While there won’t be an Arcane Season 3, there have been multiple suggestions that a successor is coming. Arcane’s success proves there’s a huge audience for League of Legends adaptations and the potential audience even includes those who have never touched the actual MOBA. Linke stated that Arcane was just the beginning of the team’s larger storytelling journey. Additionally, he stated that work had already kicked off on more projects across “television and films.”
Arcane is produced by the French animation studio Fortiche under the supervision of Riot Games. The partnership is confirmed to continue through more adaptations, although it’s unconfirmed where the next project will take place.
Demacia is a likely option as it would include fan-favorite champions like Garen, Lux, and Sylas. As for the plot, Demacia is set into turmoil upon the sudden death of King Jarvan III according to the in-game League of Legends lore. There have been other adaptations regarding this region, most notably the Lux comic book series published by Marvel Comics.
Furthermore, Linke concludes the video by stating he hopes to share more information with fans by the end of the year. This suggests fans may learn more when the third and final batch of Arcane Season 2 comes out on November 23, 2024.
