As possibly the most busted DPS in Zenless Zone Zero, Miyabi has players racing to figure out her best build.
The wait for Miyabi felt long, but she was worth every minute for fans. With ridiculously high damage numbers and killer animations, she does not disappoint. The new S-rank Frost anomaly agent, Hoshimi Miyabi’s entrance into Zenless Zone Zero immediately impressed players. Not only does she come with a brand-new attribute, but her kit is also brimming with never-before-seen mechanics sure to surprise players.
Miyabi’s playstyle breaks away from the norm, so there’s a learning curve to mastering her. With everything in mind, here’s a detailed breakdown of her playstyle, the best builds, and the most optimal team compositions.

How to use Miyabi in ZZZ
Miyabi is a Frost anomaly DPS in Zenless Zone Zero, with a kit centered around dealing devastating AoE attacks one after another. With all the nuances in her kit, it might be too much to process all at once. Miyabi’s playstyle blends the best of a pure hyper carry and anomaly DPS, meaning she has no shortage of damage sources from her attacks and “shatter to disorder” procs.
Miyabi’s bread-and-butter kit involves building Fallen Frost stacks and activating Shimotsuki Stance at level 3. She can stack up to six Fallen Frost charges, marked by the six circles beneath her HP.
Once Miyabi hits at least two Fallen Frost stacks, her next heavy attack will trigger Basic Attack: Shimotsuki, leading into a huge AoE blast. As a rule of thumb, players should only use this enhanced attack when she’s at max stacks, or they’ll miss out on the potential damage.
Shimotsuki peaks at six stacks, unleashing an attack with the biggest damage multiplier in the game. By setting off any of these, Miyabi can collect different amounts of Fallen Frost stacks.
- Ex special: two stacks
- Frostburn (anomaly): one stack
- Disorder: two stacks
- Ultimate: three stacks
Compared to Shimotsuki, her basic attacks and the rest of her kit fall far behind in damage output. Because of this, she’s better suited as a quick swap burst DPS, only needing field time to accumulate Fallen Frost stacks through Frostburn and her abilities, build Frost Anomaly, and unleash massive nukes when her stacks are maxed out.
Depending on the team composition, Miyabi can change up her rotations. She can work in a dual DPS setup with another quickswap anomaly agent for disorder procs, or play like attack-specialty hypercarry, leveraging the boss’s downtime during its staggered phase to deal more than twice the damage with the help of stunners.
Miyabi Best Drive Discs sets
The best Drive disc sets for the best Miyabi build combine Branch and Blade Song with Woodpecker Electro or Polar Metal. Miyabi, the anomaly agent is strangely better at maximizing crit values over anomaly proficiency. Besides anomaly mastery, Miyabi’s frost anomaly buildup rate is tied to her crit rate.
Here are the ideal main stats for each piece:
- Flat HP
- Flat ATK
- Flat DEF
- Crit Rate / Crit damage / ATK%
- Ice damage bonus / ATK%
- ATK% or Anomaly Mastery
Stats Priority: Crit rate (80%) > Crit damage (minimum 160%) > ATK% > ATK > Pen = AP
4-piece Branch and Blade Song and 2-piece Woodpecker Electro
Branch and Blade Song is custom-made for Miyabi, and it’s easy to see why. With it, she can hit 46% crit damage and 12% crit rate—stats that are tough to reach through drive discs alone. Keeping the uptime of this buff is fairly simple, as Miyabi has little trouble triggering freeze and shatter, especially once the 80% crit rate threshold is met. On the other hand, players can round out this Miyabi build with Woodpecker Electro, which becomes another source of crit rate.
4-piece Branch and Blade Song and 2-piece Polar Metal
80% crit rate is an ideal stopping point when building Miyabi. Provided players can meet this requirement through W-Engine and drive discs, players can instead equip Polar Metal. Polar Metal provides her an ample ice damage boost, which is nice to have especially in teams without buffers like Lighter or Soukaku.
Best Miyabi W-Engines
Picking up Hailstorm Shrine makes all the difference in going for the best Miyabi build in ZZZ. While alternatives like Fusion Compiler, Flamemaker Shaker, Electro Lipgloss, and Roaring Ride exist, Miyabi’s signature weapon still takes the crown.
Hailstorm Shrine (S-rank)
Some agents in Zenless Zone Zero can only live well with their signature weapon and Miyabi is easily around the top of that list. Miyabi’s frost anomaly build-up rate hinges on anomaly mastery and crit rate. So far, no anomaly W-Engine offers crit stats except Hailstorm Shrine. Hailstorm Shrine is a crit rate anomaly W-Engine packed with crit damage and increased ice damage. This W-Engine outperforms the others by a long shot, and equipping anything else would result in a drastic drop in numbers
Fusion Compiler (S-rank)
Miyabi can keep three stacks of Fusion Compiler’s passive effect without too much trouble, but it does require playing the character differently. She’ll gain a 24% pen ratio, 12% attack, and 75 anomaly proficiency when everything is online. These stats are great for boosting her damage while on the field.
Rainforest Gourmet (A-rank)
The Rainforest Gourmet is Miyabi’s best free-to-play W-Engine, and it’s craftable to help it easily reach five stars. The stat offering of base attack and anomaly proficiency is generally good for Miyabi, but the attack buff off energy consumption makes it better than the other A-rank alternatives.
Any Attacker W-Engine (S-rank)
Her lack of crit rate anomaly W-Engines in the game means players may have to equip an Attacker W-engine instead. Fortunately for the build, this is still a viable option, even though Miyabi can’t take advantage of its passive effects.
Players have a few choices; Ellen’s Deep Sea Visitor, Nekomata’s Steel Cushion, or the B-rank [Lunar] Noviluna. Deep Sea Visitor offers a slight edge with its higher base attack. For those who don’t happen to have a spare limited S-rank W-Engine lying around, Steel Cushion is a standard weapon, making it much easier to obtain. Finally, the [Lunar] Noviluna offers boosts to both attack and crit rate
Best Miyabi teams in Zenless Zone Zero
Miyabi’s team compositions are flexible, and she can fit comfortably in hypercarry and anomaly-based teams. With her flexibility, many players will tinker with team synergies and rotations, and there are plenty of team-ups to consider.
Best Miyabi Quickswap Disorder Team – Miyabi, Yanagi + Any support or stunner (Agent Gulliver / Sharkboo)
Besides her attacks, Miyabi relies on disorder to stack fallen frost, which she can’t trigger by herself. She needs a second anomaly unit to optimize her kit, and Yanagi is an ideal choice. The dynamic duo can activate each other’s additional abilities. Their quick swap play style also allows for seamless shifting without sacrificing damage.
Yanagi and Miyabi can take turns entering the field and executing their combos. After Miyabi uses her enhanced attack to trigger the frost burn anomaly, swap to Yanagi to trigger disorder and polarity disorder, which will grant four stacks of fallen frost. Then, switch back to Miyabi, cast her skill, and land more Shimotsuki damage. Any support or sub-DPS can fill the flex spot to enhance both DPS as they alternate dealing damage.
Agent | What they do |
Caesar | Provides attack buff, damage increase, shield, and interruption resistance increase |
Nicole | Offers crowd control, defense shred, and up to 15% crit rate at M6 which helps Miyabi reach the crit rate requirement of 80% |
Rina | Pen Ratio and electric damage increase |
Soukaku | Attack buff and ice damage increase, and ice resistance shred at M4 |
Burnice | Multiple damage sources, from on and off-field damage to disorder, but requires perfect rotations and animation cancels |
Lucy | Grants attack buff, off-field damage, and crit damage at M4 |
Miyabi Hypercarry – Miyabi, Lighter, Lucy (Red Moccus)
With Lighter and Lucy on the team, players can expect multiple buffs coming in.
Lighter pairs well with Miyabi, offering stuns and boosted damage for the build through an ice resistance shred and an ice damage buff. However, Miyabi requires a support agent, and Lighter needs another member of Sons of Calydon for their additional abilities, which leaves Lucy as the sole option. Despite being an A-rank agent, Lucy certainly deserves the spot.
Apart from Lucy’s attack and crit buff, she uses the Astral Voice drive disc set for additional damage buffs. With Lighter and Lucy consistently triggering quick assists, keeping the 24% attack buff from this set active is a piece of cake.
Unlike anomaly-focused teams, this setup operates differently. Lighter acts as the stunner, while Lucy plays the support role, which means fewer disorder procs and slower fallen frost stacking. But with a stunner in play, enemies can be knocked into their staggered phase more quickly, enabling Miyabi to follow up with attacks that deal double the damage.
Put simply, Miyabi’s playstyle here will shift to match that of a hypercarry attacker, like Ellen and Zhu Yuan.
Best free-to-play Miyabi Team – Miyabi, Piper, Lucy (Red Moccus)
Players can build a free-to-play quick-swap disorder team with Piper and Lucy.
In this setup, Piper serves as a budget version of Yanagi, with her and Miyabi alternating between triggering frostburn and assault for powerful six-digit disorder nukes, while also assisting Miyabi in stacking fallen frost. Lucy, another Sons of Calydon faction member, fits right in. As with other Miyabi teams, mastering the rotation is key, as players must manage both Miyabi and Piper’s stacks simultaneously.
