ZZZ: The best build, W-Engines, and team compositions for Vivian

zenless zone zero vivian

Vivian adds something that ZZZ players have long needed and if she has a good build and appropriate team composition, she can be a transformational addition to any roster.

While the last two Zenless Zone Zero patches have been all about attackers and new supporting options, Vivian is a new addition for disorder-focused players. She’s specifically designed to be in dual-anomaly teams, and stands as ZZZ’s first ether anomaly agent.

Her unique kit makes her somewhat awkward to build, though. Here’s how to approach Vivian and who her best teammates are.

Best Vivian Drive Disc build

The best Drive Disc build for Vivian in ZZZ is pairing a four-piece Phaethon’s Melody set with two-piece Chaos Jazz or Freedom Blues.

All the new Drive Discs added to Zenless Zone Zero since version 1.2 and beyond have been tailored to a specific character. In the same way that Shadow Harmony is made for Soldier 0 Anby and Branch & Blade Song is meant for Miyabi, Phaethon’s Melody is designed for Vivian. The boost to anomaly mastery is helpful for any anomaly agent, but the off-field ether damage boost is extremely useful for Vivian specifically.

As for the two-piece set, Chaos Jazz and Freedom Blues both offer +30 anomaly proficiency. Though Chaos Metal offers some ether damage, Vivian gets more out of the extra anomaly proficiency.

Here are the stats to build for Vivian in each Drive Disc slot:

  1. HP
  2. Attack
  3. Defense
  4. Anomaly proficiency
  5. Ether damage or PEN ratio
  6. Anomaly mastery

In terms of secondary stats, basically everything other than defense and HP works. As an anomaly agent, anomaly proficiency is a major part of her kit, but she also benefits from PEN ratio. Her damage-over-time abilities can also have critical hits, meaning she benefits from crit rate and crit damage.

It’s worth noting that as time goes on, players may want to opt for PEN ratio in the fifth slot over ether damage. If Vivian is going to be commonly paired with debuff-focused support agents like Nicole, ether damage provides superior DPS potential. As more tools and agents get introduced over time, however, Vivian may gravitate toward a defined sub-DPS role where PEN ratio is the preferred stat in the fifth slot.

Best W-Engines for Vivian

Flight of Fancy is the best W-Engine for Vivian, while Weeping Gemini is the best free option for her.

Vivian has a unique kit where she effectively scales on everything. Her signature W-Engine speaks to this, offering attack and crit rate stats alongside anomaly proficiency boosts. Because of this, there isn’t really a particularly good substitute for her. Here are the best W-Engine options for building Vivian in ZZZ:

  1. Flight of Fancy
  2. Electro-Lip Gloss
  3. Weeping Gemini

The various limited S-rank W-Engines for Miyabi, Yanagi, and Burnice can all perform well for Vivian; albeit not nearly as well as they do on the agents they’re meant for. Grace’s Fusion Compiler is hypothetically usable, but doesn’t offer optimal stats and doesn’t fit well with how Vivian is played.

The Electro-Lip Gloss is the best A-rank W-Engine option for Vivian, though it also comes with a literal price tag. For a completely free option, Weeping Gemini is the best as it’s better suited to her in terms of its stats and effect than the Rainforest Gourmet.

Best Vivian team compositions in ZZZ

Vivian is best used in disorder team compositions or in mono-ether lineups. Vivian’s additional ability is activated when she’s alongside another ether agent or another anomaly agent. Unlike most other agents, she doesn’t care about being alongside her faction-mate, Hugo.

As such, her best teams aren’t necessarily what players will expect.

Best Vivian free-to-play team: Vivian, Piper, Lucy (Red Moccus)

Piper, Lucy, and Burnice was one of the stronger disorder teams for a time, and Vivian comfortably steps in to replace Burnice. Vivian’s off-field damage and anomaly buildup are great with Piper, who can spin to win plenty of endgame battles. Lucy with an updated build can round things out for a strong free-to-play Vivian team, but players can also consider newly released stunner Pulchra for that third spot.

Best Vivian whale team: Vivian, Miyabi, Astra Yao (Resonaboo)

Miyabi, Astra Yao, and any anomaly sub-DPS can clear basically any in-game content with ease. Vivian can step into that “any anomaly sub-DPS” role just as well as Yanagi or Burnice. Miyabi is still Zenless Zone Zero’s best DPS option, and Vivian can proc disorders that boost her further. Add Resonaboo to give an extra bit of ether damage and buildup to have a deadly team.

Best mono-ether team: Vivian, Zhu Yuan, Nicole (Resonaboo)

Vivian finally makes all those four-piece Chaos Metal Zhu Yuan builds that players reflexively used viable. As the first ether anomaly agent, Vivian can proc corruption more easily than anyone else. She’s also fine with spending a good amount of time on-field, which makes it so Zhu Yuan can be off-field, building up energy and shotgun shells. Nicole or Astra Yao can round things out, though Nicole’s debuffs will likely do more for both agents.
