Vivian has something that ZZZ players need and if she has a good build and appropriate team composition, she can be a transformational addition to any roster.
Zenless Zone Zero has a sub-DPS problem. Most agents who fit this moniker have suffered from power creep, from Lucy to Burnice to Orphie and Magus. The one major exception to this has been Vivian. The off-field anomaly DPS started as one of the best agents in the game and hasn’t really fallen off since then.
So how does Vivian hold up these days? And what’s the best way to build her? Here’s a full breakdown heading into Zenless Zone Zero season 3.

Is Vivian worth pulling?
Vivian remains a powerful sub-DPS for anomaly teams in Zenless Zone Zero.
When Vivian first came out in ZZZ version 1.7, she was the best off-field anomaly agent in the game. In Zenless Zone Zero Season 3, she’s still there. While she still needs a solid primary DPS to be effective, she remains one of the best agents to have for anomaly teams.
What’s more, she has also benefitted from some of the shifts in end-game content. Buffs have specifically started boosting instances of abloom damage, rather than disorders. Vivian was the first character to deal abloom damage and while others have been added since, she’s still the best off-field option for it.
The cherry on top is that Vivian is very effective without her signature engine. Though she has a very good W-Engine that is usable on many anomaly characters, her free-to-play alternatives actually hold up strikingly well.
How to play Vivian in ZZZ
Vivian is an off-field damage dealer that deals bursts of damage after other party members apply attribute anaomalies to enemies. She does this using her unique resources, Flight Feathers and Guard Feathers.
Vivian acquires Flight Feathers by doing her basic attack strings and by performing a defensive assist. She then converts Flight Feathers into Guard Feathers by doing her divebomb attack. When she has Guard Feathers available and an allied agent applies attribute anomaly, she will trigger abloom and deal a burst of damage.
The key to playing Vivian effectively is making sure she has a steady supply of Guard Feathers. While she gets some through her ultimate and EX special attack, she also gets them through her basic attack strings and from defensive assists. When she has Guard Feathers, she can deal significant damage to enemies, but players need to make an active effort to keep her supplied.
Best Vivian Drive Disc build
The best Drive Disc build for Vivian in ZZZ is pairing a four-piece Phaethon’s Melody set with two-piece Chaos Jazz or Freedom Blues.
Phaethon’s Melody was originally introduced as a signature Drive Disc for Vivian. Plenty of other agents use it these days, but it’s still the backbone to building Vivian. The boost to anomaly mastery is helpful for any anomaly agent, but the off-field ether damage boost is extremely useful for Vivian specifically.
As for the two-piece set, Chaos Jazz and Freedom Blues both offer +30 anomaly proficiency. Though Chaos Metal offers some Ether Damage, Vivian gets more out of the extra Anomaly Proficiency.
Here are the stats to build for Vivian in each Drive Disc slot:
- HP
- Attack
- Defense
- Anomaly Proficiency
- Ether Damage
- Anomaly Mastery
In terms of stats, basically everything other than defense and HP offers Vivian something of value. Anomaly Proficiency is still the biggest priority for Vivian though, and she needs as much as possible. Not only does it help her trigger more disorders, she has additional scaling off AP through her core skill.
Ether Damage is also the best pick for the fifth Drive Disc slot. While there are some specific team compositions with support agents like Nicole that could see PEN Ratio be the optimal choice, these situations are few and far between.
As for substats on her discs, though ATK% and Anomaly Proficiency are both pegged as valuable by the game, AP is the bigger priority by a considerable margin.
Best W-Engines for Vivian
Flight of Fancy is the best W-Engine for Vivian, while Weeping Gemini is the best free option for her. While Vivian was seemingly more W-Engine-dependent on her initial release, things have shaken out in a way where she can get by quite well with A-rank W-Engines.
Does Vivian need her signature W-Engine, Flight of Fancy?
Flight of Fancy is Vivan’s best W-Engine, but she can perform very well without it. Vivian has a unique kit where she effectively scales on everything. Her signature W-Engine speaks to this, offering ATK and Crit Rate stats alongside Anomaly Proficiency boosts. Still, with Vivian settling firmly into a sub-DPS position on anomaly teams, Weeping Gemini has emerged as a solid plan-B.
Players should still consider pulling for Flight of Fancy, though. The W-Engine is one of the most versatile limited-time weapons in the game, working well with most anomaly agents.
Weeping Gemini
Vivian is one of the best Weeping Gemini users in Zenless Zone Zero. The ability to quickly gather up to 192 bonus Anomaly Proficiency makes it so she can quickly and reliably do enormous damage fits brilliantly into Vivian’s kit. Electro Lip Gloss or Fusion Compiler can be used in a pinch, but Weeping Gemini is very good here.
From a pure numbers perspective, Flight of Fancy is only about 15% stronger Weeping Gemini in most team compositions. When it comes to W-Engine alternatives, Vivian is in a much better spot than most agents.

Best Vivian team compositions in ZZZ
Vivian is best used in disorder team compositions. Vivian’s additional ability is activated when she’s alongside another ether agent or another anomaly agent so unlike most other agents, she doesn’t care about being alongside her faction-mate, Hugo. As such, her best teams aren’t necessarily what players will expect.
Best Vivian free-to-play team: Vivian + Piper + Lucy / Pulchra (Red Moccus)
Piper, Lucy, and Burnice was one of the stronger disorder teams for a time, and Vivian comfortably steps in to replace Burnice. Vivian’s off-field damage and anomaly buildup are great with Piper, who can spin to win, even in endgame battles. Lucy with an updated build that prioritizes her off-field damage can round things out for a strong, free-to-play Vivian team. Players can also consider using fellow Son of Calydon Pulchra over Lucy against certain bosses.
Best Vivian whale team: Vivian + Yuzuha / Astra Yao / Nangong Yu + Miyabi / Alice / Promeia (Robin)
There’s a lot more flexibility than there used to be for dual-anomaly teams. Vivian remains the best sub-DPS option, but there are plenty of options for both the primary DPS and the support.
Miyabi is still among Zenless Zone Zero’s best DPS option, and Vivian can proc disorders that boost her further. Promeia and Vivian can combine for massive, explosive ablooms when the situation calls for it. Similarly, Alice and Vivian make for an incredible duo for proccing as many disorders as possible.
In a supporting role, Yuzuha long had uncontested “best in slot” status on all anomaly teams but Nangong Yu is also very good. Astra Yao also remains one of Vivian’s preferred teammates, though even Nicole can work in a pinch.
