Is Xbox Game Pass worth it just for Black Ops 6? We break it down

call of duty black ops 6

It’s finally official. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, but is getting the game on a subscription service worth it?

When Microsoft purchased Activision for a cool $69 billion, there was immediate speculation about when fans could expect Call of Duty games on Xbox Game Pass. For a time, it seemed like this wouldn’t be happening due to major releases opting out of subscription services and lingering anti-trust concerns. But with the wheels seemingly coming off the entire Xbox brand, the company might be throwing a Hail Mary.

Treyarch is known for making some of the best Call of Duty Zombies modes, so expectations are running high for Black Ops 6. Including real-life figures George HW Bush and Saddam Hussein in the game will undoubtedly turn heads in legacy media. All signs point to this being one of the biggest Call of Duty games in a long time. But will it be worth subscribing to Game Pass for? Or are gamers better off just buying the game?

Is it worth subscribing to Xbox Game Pass for Black Ops 6?

An Xbox Game Pass subscription may be worth getting for casual Call of Duty fans, but isn’t ideal for hardcore players.

For players aiming to clear the campaign, kick the tires on multiplayer, and check out zombies mode, an Xbox Game Pass subscription could be a better value than actually buying the game. Many new subscribers are offered an introductory price of $1 for their first month. This offers up ample time to see how the game feels and performs. In this case, new subscribers can take a low-price risk to see what the hype is about and cancel their subscription once they’re bored.

An Xbox Game Pass subscription is also worth it if a player plans to enjoy the game casually for a few months, or for general gamers who happen to enjoy Call of Duty. The Xbox Game Pass subscription doesn’t just include Black Ops 6, but also hundreds of other games. Games like Starfield, Diablo 4, and Forza Horizon are on the service, saving gamers curious about the games plenty of funds.

Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 worth buying?

Diehard Call of Duty fans who will mostly play Black Ops 6 for the year after its release are likely better off buying the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will likely cost $70, so if a player wants to enjoy the game for several months, it’s not worth subscribing to Xbox Game Pass. A sizable chunk of the Call of Duty fandom focuses all their game time on the series. These players are better off simply buying the game instead of subscribing to a service that offers games they won’t touch otherwise. This is well-cemented today, and will become even more profound when the next round of price hikes comes through.

Gamers will get more details about the Call of Duty Black Ops 6 at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, 2024. An official Xbox blog post also promises “even more details on what’s coming in this all-new Call of Duty.” There is no word when fans can expect older Call of Duty titles to appear on the popular subscription service, but this could come at the event.
