At long last, there are finally concrete details regarding the Persona 5: The Phantom X global release date and potential ports for PS5 and other consoles.
Persona 5: The Phantom X is another entry in the ever-growing list of Persona 5 spin-offs. The Persona 5-based gacha game boasts a story, OST, and graphical styling that stands on par with the main game. On its looks alone, many fans have wanted to get their hands on it.
For a long while, Persona 5: The Phantom X seemed like it would be locked in select Asian markets, with even Japan set to miss out. Thankfully, almost a year after confirming plans for a global release, the game now has an official release date for North America and Europe.
Persona 5: The Phantom X release date confirmed
Persona 5: The Phantom X is set for a global release on June 25, 2025 on PC and mobile devices. The PC version is set to be released through Steam while the mobile version will be available on both iOS and
For a long while, this glitzy mobile game looked like it was set for regional exclusivity. After being officially revealed in March 2023, it took a long time for any official word on the game receiving a release outside China.
It wasn’t until early 2024 that Sega financial reports indicated that Japanese and international releases were likely coming at some point. This was around the same time that the Chinese version launched on April 12, 2024. It wasn’t until July 2024 that plans for an international release were explicitly confirmed by developers
It’s unclear how the release of Persona 5: The Phantom X will work in terms of in-game content. The game is already more than a year old in China. The title may launch with all the in-game content included, or it could be slowly drip-fed to players in other markets, which is the norm for gacha games.
Persona fans of all walks have something to look forward to in this regard. Developers confirmed in 2024 that Persona 5: The Phantom X was set to include crossover events with other titles. A few weeks prior to this release date reveal, fans got a taste of this with Persona 3 Reload. Further crossover events were also confirmed for Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal. Some potential lost story elements to Persona 5 could be explored, like the initial plans to include Persona 4 characters in Persona 5.
Will Persona 5: The Phantom X come out on PS5 or Xbox consoles?
Persona 5: The Phantom X developers did specify that they would look to port the game to consoles after the game’s global release date, but no more information has been provided on a console port since that time.
Sega and Atlus have taken a multi-platform approach to games in recent years, which was seen with Persona 3 Reload being playable on past-gen consoles. Both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles are home to multiple prominent gacha games, including Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.
Alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S releases, it’s possible that PS4 and Xbox One could also get the game. These have not been confirmed, however, and with no more updates being provided on a console release, it’s looking increasingly likely that the game’s promised console ports may be lost in limbo.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is hypothetically possible, though fans shouldn’t necessarily expect one.
The last two Persona 5 spin-off games Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 5 Tactica came out for the Nintendo Switch at launch. The X-factor in this is Persona 5: The Phantom X is a gacha game, which haven’t traditionally wound up on Nintendo consoles. That may change in the future, but for the time being, PS5 and Xbox owners likely still have the best hopes of one day playing Persona 5: The Phantom X.
Even that could be a long-shot at this point, however. Persona 5: The Phantom X saw a mixed critical response upon release, and player counts seem to have fallen off sharply in the time since. These factors would seem to make new console ports of the game a difficult prospect.
That’s particularly true when Atlus has plenty of other Persona properties available for its time and attention, from more remakes of previous games to the next big game in the series: Persona 6.
